Yes they did but now because of psr or whatever it's called they've got to sell, and sell homegrown players to offset the money they've spent on the crap players so now there in the same boat as the rest
Park PSR for a second ... it's obviously flawed from its base principle ... clubs with Billionaire owners can take care of their own 'sustainability' without help from some jobbing management accountants ... FFP ... if you really want 'fair play' - fair but also competitive - cap spending to £100 million per club per season ... then we'd see what coaches can really do ... People moan about Citeh's spending - and certain purile idiots question Pep's coaching ability - but the reality is that Liverpool spent just as much at Citeh during Klopp's tenure and United, Chelsea and Arsenal under various managers ... but Pep won the most trophies - go figure ...
Would be the end of the top leagues and creation of the super league if they brought a cap in. Albeit there's gonna be a big club going under before they realise the need for such limits on spending. Paying lip service to ffp and psr but blatant circumvention by a number of clubs also highlights who is actually the ones setting rules. As for spending you didn't go there did you ? Pretty certain klopps spending wasn't even close . If we ruled out all of the fullbacks pep bought initially it maybe closer however
I don't watch prem football because I care about fairness. I just want to watch the best players in the world play the best football that can be played. I want to watch the pinnacle that football can be played at. I wouldn't give a **** about the prem if it turned into a 'which coach can get the best group of mediocre players worth max £100m to play the best'. I care more about watching the football than wondering which manager is performing the best. The premier league is watched because of there being a lot of the best players in the world there. Put a £100m spend cap on it and the best players would **** off to France, Germany, Spain or a super league and people would watch that instead. Let sugar daddies buy whoever they want. Does anyone really moan about City's spending and make it about anything other than jealousy? Did any City fans stop supporting them when they went state-sponsored? No-one would stop supporting their own team if they got bought by Qatar and spent £1bn every season. They'd love it. **** it, just spend whatever you want. I don't really care what coaches can do, I want to see the best players.
OK - better idea - no spending cap or artificial constraint .... treat every club as equal ... radical idea I know ... but actually happened for 100s of years ... richest will always win the most for sure, but at least others can be competitive - including the world's richest club, Newcastle United, who are having their ambitions hamstrung ... wonder why?
I find it mental that people actually care about the overall quality of the league tbh. Surely you only really care about your own team and don't get excited when great players sign for other clubs?
I try and say it at least once a day. Nice to see Germany playing with a big striker and just hanging crosses up. Doesn’t make up for what they’ve done but gives me hope.
