Was just looking at the odds in terms of over/under wins for the regular season. Clearly I’ve been watching too much Vikings media stuff as I was starting to feel a bit optimistic for the season, the bookies have them coming last in the division based on those odds, it is close though
TBF we were down for 7 wins last season IIRC? The big thing with the Vikings is that McCarthy is a complete unknown quantity. No one knows how he's going to do in the NFL right now so honestly the bookies are guessing just like the rest of us. We could end up in any position in the NFC North. But JJ should have a lot more protection than what Darnold had and he has the talent and the arm strength. Obviously he wasn't rated as highly as Williams, Daniels or Maye in the draft but he was rated higher than Nix and he looked very good for Denver in his rookie year.
Asamoah sounds like he’s getting cut, the 2022 draft class is now completely gone I think. Not too happy they extended Kwesi before this season, if Turner and McCarthy do well then his draft ability has been saved, if both of them are poor then I would have sacked him after this upcoming season
I was about to say he didn't do too badly in 2020 or 2021 but realised he wasn't at the Vikings then. Yeah, I think how well or not McCarthy does in particular will be determine his long term future.
His drafting has been terrible, the last draft basically completely hinges on Jackson (because he decided to trade away any other meaningful picks for Turner and McCarthy pretty much). He seems to play the FA market quite well and has temporarily sorted the cap, but virtually every team that is successful is on the back of drafting well. And every team that is consistently good is because of drafting well
Clearly, the window is open for heavy FA spending because we have a QB on a rookie contract. And fairplay he fixed quite a lot of our holes in the FA period just gone. McCarthy should get more time and better protection than Darnold and his arm strength is good so it's down to his decision making on the field and his mentality when he does throw an interception or misses a wide open receiver. Turner had a quiet rookie year but I do think he could break out this season coming.
