Brought up Catholic and attended a Catholic primary school - teachers were a mix of nuns and normal teachers ... 30 kids in the class, 22 passed the Eleven plus and therefore went to Grammar schools (I was one) - local school on the Saffron Lane in Leicester where I grew up had 2 classes of thirty at that time - 2 kids passed the Eleven plus and 2 were borderline ... so 4 out of 60 got to the Grammar schools ... the disparity with my school was startling - and continued year in, year out ...

... my primary school had kids mostly of Irish, Italian, Polish and Spanish descent with a few English ... none from rich parent backgrounds ...
 
This vape ban is absolute nonsense. Bossman is selling exactly the same vapes as the disposables for the same price but now they have a little charging port. Only issue is you can’t refill the liquid so you’d be charging a battery to power nothing. There are more refillable ones now and the prices are dirt cheap and cheaper than the old disposables. The little ones you’d see discarded on the street appear to have been replaced by a smaller number the size of a Nokia 3310. Well done to whoever came up with this idea.

In theory - no expert as I've never smoked - but did work for one of the big tobacco companies for over a year and closely with their R&D facility ...

As I understand it the 'vape' means less or even no tar getting into your lungs - so from a health perspective way less damaging to our internal organs - but nicotine is highly addictive ...

They kept pure nicotine extract in heavily locked 'safes' with only the scientists having access rights etc - I was thinking it must be very valuable - but that's not it - it's ****ing lethal - one drop on your naked skin could kill you so, when they handle it, they wear full protective gear ... makes you think....

I think it's the usual mate, the we don't know but to be safe...chemicals to the brain and all that ****, but it's ok to give a kid a gun and order them to go and kill someone, and supply the weapons for them to do so.

I think for someone that has drunk and smoked in immesurable quatities and rode a motorbike, I've done quite well to reach the age I have, and I'd say out of all three of those things the motorbike would have been my most likely killer.

The problem I was listening to the other day on tv, was something about the amount of waste vapes create, but as I have never vaped, I'll keep my nose out of that debate, because I aint got a clue about them. BWood seems pretty clued up on them though.

They seem a sensible alternative to cigarettes as long as they are not as addictive. I like that they still make people go outside to use them though, funny.

It's simple PR - they need to be seen to be doing their utmost to counter safety concerns - and, more cynically, avoid costly lawsuits ... also those that are Plcs have additional regulatory and environmental responsibilities...

I'd say sugar is way more addictive than cigarettes, it's in everything which don't help. I stopped smoking no problem, but the replacement sugar (sweets etc) caused me far bigger problems. You actually get to the stage thinking would it be healthier to go back to the cigarettes. Crazy I know but I'd say this country has far bigger issue now with obese people and people with diet related problems than the ***s. Anyway I been smoke free for 6 years now, so pretty good going.

I'm 11 years and have to say found stopping smoking quite easy however i knew3 the removal of nicotine didn't cause me any problems . Hospital always asked if i wanted patches but never bothered . The biggest problem was the assosciation of smoking with other activities

Firstly - well done... and I do agree about the dangers of sugar ... biggest thing for me is the issue of secondary smoking - there is no secondary sugarload ...

My parents, bless'em smoked 30 to 40 Woodbines a day each ... as did my two aunts who would come and serve in our off-licence in the evenings ... I never touched them - just never fancied it ... and would always remove brimming ashtrays if ever near my food ... first time I encountered a smoke free house was in my Uni Halls and when I went home in the first half-term the *** haze as I walked through the door was overpowering ... both parents died from conditions that smoking unquestionably contributed to ... as did most of my mums siblings ... COPD had a field day ...

Thing is mate, I've never ever claimed that smoking is safe, every smoker knows it's not safe and it harms you. Just like drinking alcohol, just like riding a motorbike, just like sugar is doing to people today. I use to do so much mileage you could pretty much guarantee seeing every day, someone being cut from their car. We all die, it;s the one certain thing in life, the problem then comes with social care and dementia, or cancer not related to smoking at all. The perfect world, just the thing is it's not perfect and people should be allowed to make their choices, just like your glass of wine, or working under stress to live a certain lifestyle. Just like the thousands upon thousands of people killed by war, sent to their deaths, who cared about them. So sorry mate, the little stories don't work with me, because death is all around it's just some deaths seem more aceptable than others. Amen.

I get the sugar thing I realised one day that I had a little problem with energy drinks of all things. Couldn't function without drinking one in the morning.

I've never smoked cigarettes, just didn't see the point it was only weed now and then that I bothered with.
