I thought it was time for a new transfer thread for the upcoming season.

Sainz is being linked with a move to Athletic Bilbao or Villarreal today in the PinkUn

I won't include RW or Striker until players leave or we know what's happening with Dobbin.
The club are clearly still trying to negotiate Dobbins return on loan, they have recently removed the departing players from the first team list on the official website but Dobbin remains

This is a concerning sight:

Surly Reyes has to be above Long in the pecking order? If we got say a Krul or someone as backup I wouldn't mind us taking a punt as Reyes as No 1. We used to bring through keepers all the time now we want to buy them

Barden looked the most assured of all of them when dropped into the first team, but that was 3 or 4 years ago now.

I would usually encourage taking a punt on a younger player but I think Reyes needs another loan at League 1 level, he didn't look ready yet to me. I'd pick him over Long every day of the week though.

Thinking about potential players that we could bring in this morning. I wonder if a loan deal for Jahmai Simpson-Pusey from Man City could happen. We have proven with the Doyle and Wright loan/signings that we can be a good place for their youngsters, so the relationship is there.
Simpson-Pusey is a centre back capable of playing both sides with great ball playing ability off either foot. He’s 6 foot 2 at 19 years old and wants first team football.

The one thing against this happening in my mind is his age. I think Duffy goes this summer and in that even we will need some experience in the back line potentially Cordoba, McConville and Hills all under 23

Think I agree Suffolk. We need a bit of experience there, plus he would impede the progress of Hills and Adeboyega who are about the same age.

Can't see Duffy leaving unless we recruit another experienced CB. There's a reason Duffy started 45 games. McConville, Hills and Adegboyega are all promising young players but CB is one position where experience counts double - it's not one to learn on the job in this league.

I feel Hills may be ready now to step into the first team position, he's now played an important role in 2 successful campaigns for Accrington and Stockport respectively. McConville as well could push him for a starting berth, I think they are pretty close to being ready and now is the time to see what they can do

Well done, Suffolk. I read that article and tried hard to keep up with all the names. This makes it much easier. With the window opening tomorrow, I wonder how many of those names could be heard over the next 10 days before it closes again? Paddy suggests that Knapper wants to recruit aggressively, but how much has he had to shift gears a bit with Manning coming in? There's a lot of focus on GK, naturally, but only one 18 year old CB mentioned and no LW options, given the likelihood of Sainz leaving. It's going to be an interesting window to be sure.

Thanks RER. It’s an interesting list with some concerns on it.
  • Bachman is/was a good goalkeeper but has appeared to be declining in recent years. I was shocked that he is only 30 though, I thought he was at least 5 years older. I’d definitely take him as an experienced back up.
  • Sam Tickle looks an interesting choice and would be my preferred number 1 option.
  • Max O’Leary seems like a decent shot stopper but BC fans don’t rate him, apparently he makes a lot of mistakes, especially with the ball at his feet.
  • Vladan Kovačević is probably the one I’d want the least from what I’ve seen of him. I’ve watched a few highlights reels and he seems slow to dive and guilty of palming the ball back into dangerous areas - we already have one of those GKs.
  • Harrison Parker - I would assume would be one for the u21s at the moment. As the article mentions there have been a lot of departures from that squad.
  • Tochi Chukwuani - Looks like a strong dynamic CM, apparently attracting interest from clubs in top leagues in England, Germany and France so probably not one for us. He was at Nordsjaelland so that may be why we were interested.
  • Pelle Mattsson - a DM in the Oli Skipp mould from what I’ve seen. Breaks up play effectively and has a good passing range
  • Tyrhys Dolan - Interest is said to be high from us which worries me. Never liked his attitude and he blows hot and cold on the pitch. On his day a good player though
  • Nathan Butler-Oyedeji - At 22 years old he needs to find first team football somewhere, has regularly made Arsenals bench at the end of the season with 7minutes total of first team action.

Sam Tickle is an England U21 which suggests his potential, but we'd need a more experienced backup like Bachman, as you suggest. I think Paddy suggests that the two Danes were probably added when Thorup was still in post.

I think Nathan Butler-Oyedej could be a good signing in that he's a striker who can also play on the flanks and could be available on a free transfer from Arsenal. Knapper would know him obviously.

Tyrhys Dolan has had a lot of playing time for Blackburn with a steady improvement to his scoring rate and assists. He's valued at €7m on Transfermarkt and is at the end of his contract. Blackburn have offered a new contract but he seems to want a move. If we could get him on a free transfer it would be a coup and he'd be good competition for Jurásek. Wide players often blow hot and cold and if Knapper sees him as an option, he should go for it. IMO, 7 goals and 6 assists last season is pretty impressive.

A mate of mine, who is a Watford supporter, has stated that Bachman is a very good shot stopper but is suspect with his positioning. If we go for a goalkeeper who is considered better than Bachman, then we might need to spend a few bob.

I put this on the old site, so I'll repeat it here:

Pinkun report a potential replacement for Long:

"Norwich City are closing in on the signing of Plymouth Argyle goalkeeper Daniel Grimshaw. The Canaries are hopeful of securing the 27-year-old's signature after the summer transfer window opened for an early registration period yesterday, although they're targeting two stoppers before the window shuts in September. A direct replacement for outgoing keeper Angus Gunn is yet to be sourced, with City reviewing their options ahead of what's expected to be a busy summer. Reports from Sky Sports broke this morning that a £600k fee had been agreed with the Pilgrims for Grimshaw, with a medical potentially coming as early as this week if personal terms can be agreed in time. Grimshaw previously played for Belgian side Lommel when they were managed by Bristol City boss Liam Manning, who is expected to be confirmed as the new Norwich head coach in short order. Manning will work with sporting director Ben Knapper on transfers as they plot a Championship play-off push next season, although much of the talent identification work has already been completed by the recruitment team."

He looks to have shared the starting berth at Plymouth with Connor Hazard. Started 21 games this season conceding just over 2 per game in a Plymouth side that struggled. He kept 1 clean sheet but only made 1 mistake leading to a goal. Ratings wise he had 3 “poor” games - conceding 3 to Leeds, 6 against us and 5 to Burnley. The previous season however he kept 18 clean sheets in 41 League 1 appearances for Blackpool.

An upgrade on Long hopefully…perhaps we can send him the other way
