Everything we've seen from Jobe suggests that he's leaving. I'll be gutted but I'm in a place where I can appreciate what he did for us, thank him for his efforts and be a supporter of his career wherever it takes him (and especially if it gets him international recognition). The family seem to be very detailed and precise in career planning and Dortmund makes perfect sense. Let's not forget that he didn't just sign for us because we're Sunderland. He did it because of Dodds and to a lesser extent Speakman. The family will know most of the key people in Dortmund, they will know how to quickly get the best people around him and settle him in quickly. They'll have also had detailed discussions about every aspect of the plan with the technical staff. Jobe will be starting Champions League games next year for a huge club who value young players and away from the pressure of the English media. The move couldn't be any better for him really.
Champions league is a no brainer in a way. Better than Watson who’s just gone to another development club albeit a higher level one. I’m not convinced Watson ends up better. Jobe does.
Brighton will lose Mitoma this summer and suddenly that left wing role is wide open. There's competition for sure, but I think he'll do well. He's already behind Mundle here and you would think there's more opportunities there where they can give him spells in games from the bench even if he's not starting.
Think he’d have got the same here if he’d stayed and I very much doubt they replace Mitoma with him. There’ll be another in. We also develop players well.
If true, sad to see him go and not attempt a season in the PL. but if we wants to go and try to apply his trade elsewhere nothing more we can do but thank him for his time, and helping us back to the PL.
Now promotion is done and dusted wonder where we are with the contracts for Dan Neil and Cirkin...would love both to commit to the club
I’ll be disappointed if we only get €23 mind. That’s basically a swap deal with Enzo. Hopefully there’s a sell on clause
Just got a message saying the Jobe deal is likely to be done in next few days. Sounds like it could be a €40 million deal in total, with €30 million up front. Sounds like the fee has increased slightly due to us getting promoted and Dortmund wanting the deal done quickly The guy works in Germany so he's hearing it from the German side rather than connected to our side of things. Let's see what happens
It’s gutting to see jobe go, but if true I get why the family wouldn’t want him in the prem with all the media and fan scrutiny given to young English footballers (goes double for black players) in the uk. So I will watch the rest of his career with pride he’s going to the top and Dortmund is just the next step in that journey. on possible replacements I know during the season we got linked with Tommy Doyle as the replacement if jobe went, call me delusional if you want but i’d want a better replacement than that.
If I’m honest I think we need better than both. Not saying I’d want them to leave either. Cirkin’s fitness is too big a risk and I’d like someone with premier league nous in that crucial position Neil plays.
I actually admire your content and opinion, given that....In your opinion..what positions do you think are the essential for Sunderland to give it go next season and at least be competitive and if possible..any names spring to mind..??
No names spring to mind just yet, going to look into it a bit more over the next few weeks. I think the spine of the team is vital, at least 1 quality CB (2 if we don't go for Mepham), at least 2 CMs (with at least 1 specialist CDM), a CF who is good with their back to goal and a pacey RM are the main positions Truthfully we need about 10 players minimum but as long as we aim for 5/6 genuine PL calibre players then we have a chance Pace and power is key, we will play on the counter next season so we need pace throughout the team
A player in each position I like the look of. I’ll allow everyone to look themself at their own interest then bore you here. I’m leaving our goalkeeper. defender: Wouter goes - az alkmaar midfielder: Joel Fujita - st truiden forward: Jean Bahoya - Frankfurt
Disappointing but understandable for his career. If he goes get the best deal possible now a canny sell on clause as hes going to be as good as his brother eventually. Would love him with us in the premier league but if it's not to be then thanks jobe for the memories and good luck going forward. I will follow your career with interest and pride.
Agree with this, could have stayed here and been battling it put with Mundle.for.the starting spot. Either way could have seen them both being rotated in and out regularly as I don't think Mundle is that far ahead of him. I think he saw the opportunity for prem club and prem money and went for it. I think he doubted we were going up, which is fair enough. Let's see what happens. Gutted to see Jobe going, honestly hoped he would stay for a season in prem. But I suppose he is going to a club that will allow him to develop being on top in games most weeks and champions league football. Playing for a team just promoted to the prem would be a different experience compared to a team at the top in Germany! Still gutted but I also think like with Clarke this will be another tick in the box of a club that looks after the young lads needing a chance to develop as we honour their wishes letting them move when the time is right for them. Still
