In the late 60's when I was still a schoolboy at Endike we often played Maybury school and they had a lad called Kevin Lewis. He was a giant of a lad for his age, and a very good footballer and cricketer, although I once hit him for a six ( never saw the ball, closed my eyes and had a swipe) He went onto sign and play for Manchester United and then Stoke. I was always surprised his name never cropped up more in the local media around here because he was one local lad who made the grade. Always wondered what happened to him?
Also remember watching Gerry Ingram play for Victoria on a Sunday morning on Princes Elizabeth playing fields, OPE, at the same time. He signed for Blackpool then PNE and scored a shed load of goals for them.
Before my time, late 50's was another ex-Endike lad who made the grade was Trevor Porteous, he played and I believed later managed Stockport County.

Kev Lewis was the year above me when I was at David Lister - he was the best schoolboy player I ever saw; he was also same year as a Rugby League player, Mick Crane, he went on to have a very good career playing for Leeds and both Hull clubs.

Mick Crane was a cracking player. I once saw him, when playing for Rovers, give the Cas defence this outrageous dummy and half the crowd swayed. He was never out of Corals in North Point Centre when I worked there in the 1980s. Very unassuming, quiet guy. Sadly passed away a few years ago.

He was doing the same as a schoolkid; he was the main reason Lister were unbeatable in the mid/late 60s - he got on a jinking run and he was unstoppable.

My father in law played with him. Said he would pass him smoking a tab on his way to the field and then at half time he would have another as well as a few gulps of whiskey. Unreal talent which made him find playing so easy.

Went to school with Mick, some interesting memories

I knew Gerry Ingram a bit years ago
In fact stayed with him in LA
Brilliant footballer he had a picture on his wall of him jumping above Pele and heading the ball.
Great story teller too.

the young Kev Lewis was a beast as a youngster too but came back disillusioned when others caught up with him. Played for us a few games and was poor but his heart had gone out of it.
His brother Wayne had a good career in semi pro for hall rd etc
