City announce retained list

Bristol City can today announce its retained list following the conclusion of the 2024/25 season.

Contract negotiations remain ongoing with Nahki Wells and Lewis Thomas while Stefan Bajic, Ayman Benarous and Kal Naismith have been released following the conclusion of their contracts.

Naismith joined the Robins back in 2022 and made 52 appearances, scoring three goals. He spent the second half of the 24/25 season on loan at Luton Town.

Benarous joined the Academy as a seven-year-old and signed pro terms at Ashton Gate in 2021 but has suffered a number of significant injuries since 2022.

In the latter part of this season, he was able to play for the Under-21s as part of a return to full fitness

George Earthy has returned to West Ham United following the conclusion of his loan deal where he made 40 appearances in all competitions, scoring three times and picking up the Supporters Club and Trust’s Young Player of the Year Award.

All our released players leave with the club’s best wishes and thanks for their contributions.

I noticed that Mayulu has made only two appearances at Sturm Graz so perhaps they don't rate him either. His return may not be in the cards and I am shocked that whoever wanted him for City is still employed as it was just another example of wasting money on lousy players who aren't up to our task at hand. How nice it would be to see real exciting talent reaching our ground this summer but I am not intending to hold my breath too long.

Bristol City have confirmed that a deal has been agreed in principle for Seb Palmer-Houlden to join Gillingham on a permanent basis following the forward's loan spell at Dundee.


Palmer-Houlden, a product of the Robins' academy having joined the club at the age of eight, progressed through City's ranks before putting pen to paper on a first professional contract in May 2022.
 
New contract for Tanner

George Tanner has put pen to paper on a new contract, extending his stay at Bristol City until the summer of 2028.

Tanner joined Manchester United’s academy in 2016, securing a place on their scholarship programme before signing his first professional contract with them in January 2018.

He had spells on loan at Morecambe and Salford City before joining Carlisle United on a permanent basis in 2020.

The defender arrived at Ashton Gate from the Cumbrians in August 2021 and has gone on to make 124 appearances for the Robins, scoring three goals in that time.

Two of those came in the 2024/25 season with memorable strikes against Coventry City and Luton Town.

Technical Director Brian Tinnion said: “George is a key player who has extended his stay with us after another solid campaign.

“We are excited to continue working with him – and seeing more wonder goals!”

Making 33 appearances in all competitions as City achieved their highest league finish since 2008, Tanner spoke of City’s improvements across the past few seasons.

“A few years ago, we weren’t so competitive. Since the Gaffer has come in, we’ve improved so much as a team.

“Last season to make the Play-Offs has been massive for the club. and it was great to see the reaction from the fans, I think it’s really brought the club together, and that relationship with the fans has been amazing.”

On signing his new contract, Tanner also discussed his fondness for the local area.

“It certainly feels like my home now, I’m really comfortable here and it’s a great place to live.

“I’m really settled and to stay here for a few more years is going to be great.”
 
I think it's time for Bristol City and the hierarchy that has run the club has to change and the sooner the better is my thought. The irrational thinking that has surrounded our club for many years has brought us to a point whereby we believe we can compete but need some extra oomph to get us closer than we did this season. We desperately need a new leader because I'm not too convinced that whoever may come in, and under what job description, will get much freedom if the club responsibility chart includes either Tinnion or Lansdown Jr as I truly believe they both have some humble pie to eat for their lousy decisions of the past. I can't really see us hiring a well known football person but if freedom is given to that new position (if there is going to be one) then I could go for that but only if it proves to be both wise and fruitful. I have often wondered why Bristol City tend to make things more difficult when the right way is always the easiest to enact. We will see how this unfolds and whether or not it offers a better way for our club going forward. Mmm will it be tasty?

STRANGE how the Bristol Sport have not come forward and announced such an important decision and made the Bristol Sport fan base aware-is Jon boy top dog or are the people coming in to invest or buy. ??????????????????????????
