<laugh> There are some sorry tales....even yours...can't remember 1972 much! How people can post the concerts they've been to when the thread clearly says games.....I think we're all losing our collective minds in the face of next Saturday's event.Understandable, however!<laugh>
For me,wonderful 73,miserable 85,miserable 92,dejected 97,hated 19,loved 22,going to love this one too!

I can remember every minute of my visit in 73, we had a ball , walking on air , best 24 hours of my life. .. <ok>

Initially put 1 to 2 as I went to the Coventry-Spurs 1987 cup final with my dad as he was a Coventry fan, then realised it was just Sunderland games. We got tickets through people he knew in County Durham as there wasn't a big demand from up here.

Asked in 1992 if his contacts could get us tickets for the lads v Liverpool but no joy as the demand was, of course, crazy.

The nearest I've got since was the 2019 Charlton play-off where I think they went to general sale. The costs of tickets + travel + digs was just too high and I couldn't justify it.

One of these days!

This will be the seventh visit for me, Leeds, Norwich, Swindon, Charlton (4-4 game), Portsmouth, Wycombe and now Sheffield.

1990. Awful. Remember it being very hot. Flies all over where we were stood. Outplayed.

It must have been reported already about Lou Macari as we were given it all to the Swindon fans on buses after the game. Waving wads of fake money. <laugh>
Wish you'd told me, spent weeks after rueing the loss

I went to the centenary thing at the old Wembley, sat all day bored till we played, we lost I went home. Remember walking away from Wembley and throwing the foam hand I was bought in the bin and as I threw it a lad next to me said "it's not that bad mate, we will always be sunderland"

Next visit after that was Wycombe!

My mate's dad worked at N*****e Uni and got some complementary tickets.
- for the mag section <doh>
It was all a bit weird anyway with short matches and about 20 different sets of fans with very little segregation <laugh>

I was only 12, whether with my sister and her then boyfriend who had no interest in football. It was bizarre

Since 1966 have been to all Sunderland’s games apart from the centenary trophy and the lock down win GOOCH ! . The 1966 game I saw was Everton v Sheffield Wednesday when my dad was given tickets by a local referee via Durham FA so heading to double figures come next Saturday where I will be taking the two Grandchildren as I did for the Wycombe Play Off - same outcome would be nice .

Only time I’ve seen us play at Wembley. Courtesy of Bobby Gurney. I remember it being stinking hot as well. I’m sure you remember but that was the time when thick corduroy trousers were a fashion, so that’s what I wore, along with a shirt and jumper. I must’ve lost about two stone that day.

I’ve told the story before. My gran knew Bobby Gurneys wife. She arranged for me to have a chat with him when I went home on leave from the army. He gave me his complimentary ticket. A true gentleman.

Nice story that, also heavy cord pants made me laugh out loud and brought back some memories of happier times, thanks for sharing <laugh> .
