Loved Burnleh when I went there this season. Probably the nicest home fans I met along with Boro. It’s like going back to the 90s but in a nice way. All just scraping money together during the week to get on it at £2.50 a pint from Friday to Sunday. Blackburn all seem like they have learning issues.
Did you go into Darwen? There's some funny buggers in Darwen. (quote, Chief's mum when dropping me and a school mate off for a Friday night FA Cup away match back in the day) You tried Preston? Equally grim.
Only done Preston away once, getting on for 20 years ago and do recall it being crap then but had to visit fairly regularly for work at an old job. It’s… not idyllic. There’s some nice areas not far from Blackburn. But Blackburn itself needs to just be bombed and start again.
The areas leading into Blackburn from Bolton and the nice Bolton areas. Used to play cricket in the villages around there, a lot. Bolton itself is another ****hole town centre that's been gradually killed off. It genuinely used to be a great town centre and night out. It's now ****ed. All these areas are post Industrial Revolution textile industry places, the mills all now closed down etc. It sounds very clichéd, but it's absolutely true as well.
Orient through to League 1 play off final. Looks a decent away day, anyone been? Them or Charlton. Will probably be ****ing Wycombe now.
Wycombe are ****e and won’t have their best striker for this. Charlton is a great away day. Easy to get to, proper ground and away end with loads of tickets. Orient a bit more of a pain and will be difficult getting tickets.
Not been to any of the 3 so wouldn't mind either. Wycombe/Orient would be better in sense that they're more obscure and the opportunity won't come often but if Charlton come up I can complete all of the bigger London grounds with them and QPR.
What do Orient give now? They gave us the entire stand on side of pitch last time we visited. I should be alright anyway hopefully as done loads this season.
Wasn't always like that - my old girl was one of 7 kids that grew up in Clayton-Le-Moors - small town between Blackburn and Burnley and away travel not really being much of a thing in the 1930s and immediately post-war, many local football fans would go to the home game at Blackburn one week then Burnley the next ... It all went tits up when Accrington Stanley were going bust in the 60s - (Accrington literally almost equi distance between both towns) Burnley proposed bailing Stanley out financially if Blackburn would go 50:50 - Blackburn declined and Stanley went under ...and out of the football league ... not surprisingly people from Accrington (still got 2 cousins living there) other local towns and particularly Burnley never forgave Blackburn ... and it became an enduring hatred.
Don't think the home/away thing is that uncommon. Happened down here too up until the late 50s I think.
Last game for the club will be the home game against Ipswich this weekend... has been phenomenonal ... will be sorely missed. ... for any Spurs fans viewing, the shiny things are 'trophies'... ... now if that doesn't guarantee the Spuds the Europa League, nothing will
Another boring fact, Burnley have a lot of West Yorkshire fans as they are right on the border. This only adds to their mutantness. Blackburn and Preston very much Lancashire.
