It's a pretty petty and bizarre attitude tbh. If I was a Liverpool player or Liverpool youth player I wouldn't be thinking how great the support was and how it was teaching me a lesson to stay in line, I'd be thinking that the loyalty of the fans is only there until the point at which I'm no longer serving their purposes. Given that as a football fan you want to support the team and make the players feel it's special to represent your specific team I genuinely think it does the opposite of that.
