Conte had health issues, his family stayed in Italy and he walked out on the job. There was plenty of money spent on his behalf and he got a lot of good players. His excuses are as convincing as his hairline.
Honestly, while not being up to the grade is the headline issue, it does feel like ego is part of the problem The refusal to adjust his tactics until injuries forced him to certainly can be put down to ego as much as stubbornness, while the narky press conferences and squaring up to fans are both signs of a bruised ego That being said, Matt Law deserved his broadside today
He’s out of his depth - he’s used to being one of the top, if not the top, coach in a league, and being able to use that to attract higher quality players - or at least players as good as the top ones at other teams. The level of coaching in the PL is much higher across the board and we struggle to compete for players who close the gap. We took a risk appointing him but once other teams worked out how to counter his system it’s fallen a bit flat. There’s a lot I like and admire about Ange and at least he tries to go to bat for the club. He’s old school in many good ways. But as a manager, it’s a risk that so far hasn’t paid off. If he wins the EL then it’s handshakes all round and we need to move on IMO.
This would be a dream scenario given the way this season has panned out. I just can't see past us getting beat by Bilbao in the final. I think getting to the final would soften the blow of a pointless, painful season, but if we go out to Bodo they/them Glint, I fear it will break the club.
Di Marzio claims that Marco Silva is the preferred choice, with Roberto De Zerbi and Andoni Iraola the backups All prefer 433, I notice...
If he wins Europa he’ll probably deserve to stay despite the horrid league season. Ultimately it’ll look silly if a club like us sack a manager after winning our first bit silverware for like 17 years. Although I do wonder if he himself might consider walking. It’ll be “job done” for him so to speak, done what ‘Arry, AVB, Poch, Jose and Conte all failed to do. He’d leave head held high and rightly so.
The way he's been acting in interviews in the last two weeks does give the impression that he knows that he's gone, so the pressure is off so he may as well treat himself to going in two-footed on Matt Law Not literally...
Nah he has to go regardless of Europa glory or not for me. He’s. He’s not capable of multiple games a week and his style isn’t sustainable. I also think he will happily leave if he wins that. He was never gonna be a long term (5 years plus) manager anyway.
I don’t actually disagree, I’d rather he goes regardless of Europa but I just think it’s a case of (if he wins) do I see Spurs genuinely sacking the manager that’s done what multiple others haven’t? Especially as he’d also achieve Levy’s wet dream of CL revenue.
I just think that the league form has been so bad for so long that even a pro Ange person can see Ange isn’t the answer. Ideally Spurs win it and they do a mutual consent announcement, that way everyone comes out this looking okay.
This would be the ideal scenario. The thought of Ange trying to juggle the PL and the CL is terrifying. That plus the quality of teams coming up from the Championship next season would leave us in real danger of relegation if he stays imo.
The final next week is Ange’s 100th match at spurs and I believe we are due some stats from our esteemed statistician so let’s wait until then!
Ange does not enjoy post match interviews. Looks like it wouldn't take much for him to strangle the sky interviewer.
