I understand the Dias comment. I read an excellent book about the origins of football in Uruguay and the Dias comment is so typical of Latin nations. They all like to properly compete and that means attacking as well as defending. Latin countries lack the pragmatism of English football.

I feel that the one point means more to us than 3 for City. Diaz did not realize what was at stake for us today. However , i would concur if we played like this all season. Unfortunately , we have managed to play much worse !

At it's best, football should be like poetry.

I like Pep...no axe to grind with City.

Yeah, also the danger of interviewing players right after a game, whilst adrenaline is still high.

I agree but it is also a cultural thing. I love the history of football and i think that the British spreading the gospel of football is significant. The book about Uruguay fascinated me because most football that was initially played in foreign countries was by ex-pats. In Latin America , they fell in love wirh the game but the emphasis was on individual expression and flair. There was no concept of playing for a draw.

I think this is still apparent with players from Latin America , Spain and Portugal. It is a real cultural difference. I can appreciate the argument although it does not apply when there is an imbalance of skill. Yesterday was boring but pragmatic.

Yeah this is how I took it. If I’d played a game where all the oppo did was defend and not try and attack and we drew (I haven’t seen the game but going from comments I’ve read) then if someone asked me what I thought of the oppo 10 mins after the game finished think I would’ve used far worse language to describe them than Dias did.

Massive culture of ****ing cheating and celebrating it though. Let's not pretend even for a second their football culture is in anyway better!

Yeah what we should have done is gone 4-2-4 and lost 10-0 just to keep them happy. It's bitter as **** and just projecting their own failures onto us.

Love it tbh.

I thought we were slightly more adventurous second half mind until the last 10. Wouldn't have been difficult though.

This has made me realise something. Martin would have absolutely hated that performance yesterday. He'd have rather lost by 5 playing his way than grinding out a result like we did.

And that ladies and gentlemen is a big reason why we enjoyed reaching 12 points in May so much.

Absolute ****ing fraud of a manager.

Didn’t say that at all, was just saying asking a player 10 mins after a game has finished he clearly is going to be frustrated. I’d imagine if you asked him this morning for an interview he’d probably say something different

Yeah was aiming at him not you.

And yeah I don't disagree about the timing but doesn't make what I said any less true. Projecting his teams failures on to us.

I love this sort of thing anyway. Made my day.

Not sure if anyone has heard of this but there is a program on the BBC on Saturday night called Match of the Day.

It's on most Saturdays apparently.

I think I recall seeing it a couple of times before in the last 2 years.

Anyway, watched it last night and it's not very good.

Watched it again this morning and still expected City to score a late winner.

Me too.

I don't see what Dias said as a spur of the moment or cultural comment. Rather a player having absolutely no idea about how fans and players of teams at the other end of the same league feed off scraps. It's mostly the same with the top 6 obsessed media and fans of those clubs, they wouldn't have a clue about what that point means to us and why it's not tin pot in our world.

We have fans who would rather not be in the Prem for various reasons and the one that comes up quite often is "we have no chance of winning anything, just there to make up the numbers or cannon fodder mixed with the occasional win/draw." Or something similar.
Can't argue with that but yesterday was our turn to experience the sweet taste of success, not City's idea of success but it's all relative. We thought before yesterday that our boys were a useless, gutless bunch stealing a living but after sleeping on it and now in the cold light of day, they still are (bet you didn't see that one coming). But for once and probably it is only once this season, they proved everyone wrong.

The gratitude of every home in our city, in our county, and indeed throughout the world, except in the abodes of the Citeh, goes out to the Mighty Saints who, undaunted by odds, unwearied in their constant challenge and mortal danger, are turning the tide of PL unfairness by their prowess and by their devotion. Never in the field of human conflict was so much owed by so many to so few.

IOAG May 2025 (with a little help from W. Churchill)

A little over the top maybe, but a point's a point. As Winston never said.
