I think it’s about “relative to spend”.

Spend? We're talking about the football sides and their ability at this point.

Chelsea 35 games 63 points +21GD

Newcastle 35 games 63 points +21GD

Yet the narrative is that Chelsea are crap and Newcastle are brilliant.?

Chelsea were poor yesterday. A good move to get the first goal and then 2nd was an lfc error of vvd kicking it against Quansah and then a last minute penalty from a silly pass to no one.

during the rest of the game, despite Neville absolutely creaming himself anytime palmer got the ball, they didn’t do an awful lot. Spell of about 25 mins where we just all over them and they couldn’t touch the ball.

They still look awful defensively and although Lavia and caicedo are starting to show their worth, attack them and their defence and keeper crumble.

Should be a comfortable Newcastle win this
Just a pity Liverpool didn’t respect the League and played a weakened team unnecessarily.

Liverpool, with half a team rested and the rest with hangovers, didn’t find it particularly difficult bar palmer. Nunez missed an absolute sitter, Salahs wasn’t much more difficult, so if we put our cup final big boy pants on and the crowd turns up we should be fine. Tino on palmer gives me hope.

Chelsea were by far the better team and I can guarantee that if Newcastle won that fixture, we'd be taking about how well we played and saying Howes tactical masterplan was the difference between the two sides.

BTW I'm not saying Newcastle can't win next week, but the mental gymnastics is extreme in the assessments of Newcastle and Chelsea respectively.

Was a Liverpool team with most of the main players rested, and those that did play were still massively hungover from celebrating the title lol. And Chelsea still nearly threw it away at the end.

Liverpool allowed Palmer and Caicedo to do what they want, we won't do that.

We've played teams under strength over the 35 fixtures.

Chelsea and Newcastle both have 63 points +21 GD after 35 fixtures.

I've been hearing how crap Chelsea are all season, but the table doesn't lie at this point. There's nothing between them and Newcastle, not even goal difference.

We're at home, so I kinda edge towards us, but the loss of Joelinton is huge.

I doubt that. They looked great up until about Christmas, were pushing at the top of the league (were 2nd and just 3 points or so behind Liverpool). The fact that they were more than 10 points ahead of us at that time and now we're level tell you that they've had two very different halves of a season so far.

Hard to know which Chelsea (or Newcastle) are going to turn up really but they simply don't look as good as they did a few months ago.

I was in an argument on here after the 1st game, which I believe they lost to city. I was saying they would do well and looked much better.

Agree, both sides are similar.

Ok but I doubt people were saying Chelsea were crap back in September, October and November when they were pulling off win after win.

The best measure is the full season so far, which is the point I'm making. I'd also make a case there's nothing in recent form to separate the sides.

Every club has ups and downs in a season, but we shouldn't just look and the downs and forget the bits we prefer when judging another sides capabilites.

I can guarantee some Chelsea fans are looking saying Newcastles a tough away game and someone is saying they were crap against Bournemouth, Fulham and Brighton.

I'm simply acknowledging that after 35 games the table is pretty accurate and Chelsea are as good as Newcastle in general. I'm edging towards Newcastle simply because of the game being at home and not because Chelsea aren't very good.

The cu#t technique 101? You don't talk down your opposition, you talk them up, otherwise you're deminishing the accomplishment post Victory.

Barring injuries it'll be the same starting 11 as yesterday and good bench well besides Wilson!

Agree on the starting 11, but I think Wilson was looking sharp when he came on Yesterday, and I just have this feeling, he's going to score a crucial goal for us.

It nearly happened Yesterday.

If he does he'll get another 2 years contract <laugh>
