Some smashing races at Punchestown with the Grade 1 Champion Chase at 18:00 looking the pick on paper. After all the fannying about Mullins did with Lossiemouth and her trip throughout the winter it is very surprising to see Fact To File dropping back to 2 miles and it will be interesting to see how he travels and, at the business end, whether he has the turn of foot to win this. I'm also looking forward to seeing Kopek Des Bordes again but the most competitive of the Grade 1s looks to be the 3 mile Champion Novice Chase. On paper you could probably only discount the bottom one and Ballyburn will have to be at his brilliant best to gain the verdict. I couldn't back him today ar cramped odds though - Cheltenham was too much "heart-in-mouth" for me, my old ticker wouldn't stand it. Finally Lieutenant Henderson is again trying to win the day 1 bumper and has sent over Michael Buckley's Laguna Beach. Opposition looks strong though with a half-brother to the aforementioned Kopek Des Bordes - Leader Des Bordes - currently favourite.

Punchestown
15,05 Luminous Light 25/1 e/w WH five places, 20/1 bet365, PP and sky six places
15,40 Samui 20/1 e/w sky six places, five others

The placepot at Punchestown will pay a fortune.

Lovely performance from Champ Kiely and again Danny Mullins gave him a nice ride. Very good jockey.

Let’s not overdo it. Let’s see how he goes next season.

didn’t have much to beat there in a way , race fell apart , but he did nothing wrong , that Mullins plan to run F 2 F at two miles seemed to backfire , as dominant as he was at Cheltenham, todays three favs all poor …..hope MN dominates next year !

Marine Nationale's time fast by 3.5 seconds - that was a proper championship 2 mile gallop and he lobbed through it and went away readily. Best 2 mile chase performance for a few years I reckon. Let's see what Timeform say.

Barry Connell was v confident all week , as he was before Cheltenham……

Better than the one at Sandown?

They were both very good in terms of the time, I would just rate Marine Nationale a bit higher today as he followed up from Cheltenham whereas Il Etait Temps was a fresh horse at Sandown.

Surely beating Jonbon on a day where he ran away from Cheltenham is better than beating up that field today?

Jonbon over the top at Sandown - 4th run in 13 weeks. Pensioners in behind him.

And Captain Guinness is a spring chicken? Let’s see what they look like next season, hopefully we seen them meet in Ireland and hope some of the novices come good too.
