Exactly what I said mate, spent 120m and only really Delap has made as difference. But loads think wow they spent loads, we wouldn’t do that.
To be fair it’s hard attracting players who you would expect to make a big difference, it’s all a risk you take especially when you’re shopping in the £15-20m market. That’s not a lot anymore. Rogers looked average at Boro, gone to Villa and he’s been incredible. Philogene and Clarke were both head and shoulders above the championship but haven’t cut it yet. I’d imagine we’d be targeting similar players based off the model we’ve followed so far.
When Ipswich get relegated and if we go up, would you take Clarke back and give him another shot at the premier League, playing him to his strengths?
I agree but we haven’t seen him in the PL yet, totally different game mate. Plenty will make the cut just up to the club to find them. Wharton doing very well at Palace but obviously being integrated into an established team is a lot easier than being thrown in the deep end with a newly promoted squad and loads of other inexperienced lads.
I presume one of them is the player I was told about, plays for a top nation and probably means we won't be pursuing Mepham.
Probably not. They have struggled a fair bit this season and he has had some criticism, plus the French leagues took a revenue knock last summer so you'd expect French teams to be a bit more frugal.
Hope so, any fee for lads not in our plans is welcome, him and Watson could give us £15m not a bad start to a window
Anyone watched triantis and reckon he could fit in with us if we didn’t go up? Seen his agent was saying he needs to play first team. Could be looking at a bit of money if we got rid, with ekwah and Watson before we even touch the main players
He has looked very good in the bits I've seen, certainly capable of doing okay at Championship level but it will depend on which league we're in and how many of our midfield leave if we don't go up. One thing worth considering is that his role at Hibs is a bit more like we saw from Corry Evans or Kirchoff with us, meaning his main duty is defensive and keeping things ticking over, which is a bit different to how Dan Neil plays as he is given a bit more license to play raking balls forward or even start attacks, even though he is playing DM.
From the games I've seen I don't think I agree, is given a lot of license to go forward and give fans consistently agree he's better when someone else is along side him to cover. More for for jobes role to me, more direct running than Jobe and tries to beat his man more often but not sure he has as much end product in the box.
Fully agree mate. The Ipswich CEO was on talksport a while ago basically said their aim was to sign good young English players to future proof against relegation, meaning they had saleable assets to help them re invest. It’s a good plan, but has massively hindered their chance of staying up, their overall recruitment has been poor.
What a player I thought we had after that Luton home leg in the playoff. Just doesn’t seem to have the discipline or graft needed to gain RLBs trust. There’s still a small part of me wants him to succeed here but for the £7m euros quoted (think we’d see £4m after West Ham take their chunk) that’s still a relative success in the market.
Exciting player I'd say, got the physical attributes and aggression of a CB but has quality on the ball and natural attacking instincts. Even before he signed half the clips of him (playing at CB) were him finishing crosses at the far post and the like. Could well turn out to be a class CM at championship level if not higher.
