I just don't see the advantage of it. Sell players for massive fees? Going up instantly adds a huge amount to the value of every player we own. Buy next level players? We can attract a better quality player if we go up. Convince ELF to stay? No convincing needed if we go up, he's ours. Really the ONLY possible benefit is a morale boost from winning more games next year but personally I think playing against Premier League level teams for a year would be better for our young players' development than beating worse teams anyway...
Completely hypothetically of course - We’ve just won the play off final and you are the lottery winner who gets to decide whether we accept the promotion the players have earned, or not. Would you choose to remain in the Championship or accept promotion? And if so, why?
I don't understand, are you saying it's impossible for any club to ever stay in the Premier League after promotion? May as well just do away with relegation / promotion in that case (except for the fact that is clearly completely wrong lol)
think playing against Premier League level teams for a year would be better for our young players' development than beating worse teams anyway... why do we not let younger players play in our team instead of sending them down one or twice divisions, what reason do you think we send them down there?
Only increases significantly if they play in the Premier, and show they can cope with it. Promotion dosen't automatically add 50% to there worth.
Well that choice isn't even realistic. But as I've stated I'd be concerned on the long term futures of the youngsters if they are hit with large and demoralising defeats. Especially following recent performances we are struggling to score, and so dull to watch. We'd be hammered against decent teams, even the Mags which I hate to admit. I'd honestly prefer we stay down for another year and strengthen over the summer, and go all out next year. Like I say its only my opinion, I don't expect pelters for stressing an opinion
Don’t worry about it mate it’s my opinion as well. These that want to go up just for the money are crackers. ( as they put it )
I agree, absolutely it’s unrealistic; it’s completely hypothetical. But which would you decide upon in that scenario? We don’t get to choose when we are promoted, but you’re the winner of the lottery, so would you turn down the guaranteed promotion for another year to strengthen in the Championship?
Because they're not good enough to play for a team battling for promotion in the Championship, obviously?
Not 50% but it absolutely adds value. For one thing, by virtue of showing that the players are good enough to win promotion. But also because as a club we simply wouldn't be as desperate to sell due to having significantly more funds than in the Championship. If you're sitting on £100m from a TV deal you're in a far stronger bargaining position than if you're almost skint...
But you think our players are good enough to step up and play in the premiership when they obviously aren’t.
That's a completely different conversation. You quoted my post about how playing against better opposition is better for players' development, and implied we send youngsters to lower leagues because it's better for development. That is not the reason we send players out on loan. The reason is because they're not good enough to fight for promotion.
You've misunderstood that phrase then lol. Pigs flying is impossible. "When pigs fly" is used to imply something is impossible (or very close to).
