The U21 coach seems to think that Jay Robinson is ready for a first team debut and that he spends all his training time with the first team squad now.
As I said the other day, I think we need to be giving the youngsters a sniff of a chance of getting a few Premier League minutes under their belts to encourage them to stay. Results don’t matter and as long as they aren’t scapegoated if they make a mistake, bring it on.

You can never have too many scapegoats in a club like Saints.

Gathercole didn't score all season. Now he has 9 in 5 games. What gave him that kind of surge?

Oyekunle on 24 goals now. Ballard's best return in a season was 15.

Interesting that Robinson made the bench at the weekend and Oyekunle hasn’t been mentioned. They are both 18 but would appear Robinson is more highly thought of (unless it is something to appease Robinson to try and get him to stay).

Goals at youth level don’t really mean much, but not much more Oyekunle could do scoring wise to get noticed

Southampton’s Under-21s will host Brentford at St Mary's Stadium in the Premier League Cup semi-finals.
Saints booked their place in the final four with an entertaining 5-3 victory over Charlton in March's quarter-final, continuing their goalscoring touch following a 4-1 win over Sheffield United in the round of 16. They will now face Brentford B, who progressed to this stage of the competition following a 1-0 win over Nottingham Forest.

The tie will take place at St Mary's Stadium on Thursday 1st May, with a 7pm kick-off (BST).

I think Robinson is a 3rd year scholar, while Oyekunle is a 1st year. And Robinson has been playing this season for the u21s rather than the u18s, so maybe physically/tactically he's more advanced (?).

Expect Oyekunle will lead the line for the u21s next season while Robinson will go out on loan.

Southampton’s Under-21s will host Leicester City at St Mary's Stadium in the Premier League 2 Round of 16 play-off tie.
Saints finished seventh in Premier League 2 with 34 points and will now face the Foxes who placed tenth with 31 points. As a result St Mary's will play host to the first knockout stage of the tournament, with the fixture taking place on Sunday 27th April at 2pm BST. Saints last faced Leicester on the opening day of the Premier League 2 season, coming away with a 2 - 1 victory thanks to goals from Joe O'Brien-Whitmarsh and Princewill Ehibhationham.
