If Arsenal won the league you'd be arguing otherwise.

That's how it works.
Arguing what?? If we won the league right now from this position I think I can quite confidently say that I wouldn’t say we’d suddenly become a great team. It would a trophy to celebrate but would also be a comedic state of affairs and provide epic wum potential. We’d easily be the worst team to win it for a long time.

You'd be arguing the league standards weren't low. That's how it works.

That's just what you think because you're not.

I think there’s a bit of recency bias in there. Liverpool were pretty good for a long time. Not unbelievable but efficient and won most games easily and they’ll still probably lose no more than three or four. If Arsenal or anyone had pushed them harder they’d maybe have kept up a better level for longer.

Agreed. Pretty good. Efficient. Won most games easily. Best in the league.

And all achieved even with not being a great team.

I've never known a fanbase lick it's own arse quite like Arsenal the past 2 years, and now all of a sudden everyone's below par because they haven't won the league. It's a sociopathic fanbase.

Yeah something has happened there in the last ten years or so. Just a very cringey club off the pitch now when it was not that long ago a classy one.

I’m dangling unsubtle wum bait.

my genuine thoughts are below, but who cares what those are really:

1 - Liverpool are the best team in the league
2 - Liverpool are not a particularly great football team
3 - With consistent reffing the gap at the top would be about half what is now

2 pisses me off the most. That the league can be won by a team like this and we fumble it yet again. Urgh.

2 pisses you off the most cos it's bollocks. Liverpool have been exceptional this season, they're just experiencing some burn out, hence why they've gone out of the CL, but how they've been has guaranteed them the league already.

They're getting used to being the club that comes second. Maybe it'll last another 65 years and then they'll learn about staying humble thats for sure.

But we’d agree the general level of the teams that will eventually finish say 4th-9th is quite good. Brighton, Forest, Villa etc. along with Chelsea and City who aren’t what they should be but aren’t dross. The issue is really they’ve not had to be brilliant as just being very good has been comfortably enough but nobody has really made them have to find another gear.

Yup. Every team down to 10th is at least a 6/10 team now. I just also really want the winner to be a 10/10 and be looked as best in Europe so that we can put the Prem on a pedestal of top quality. But we can’t this year.

That city team that demolished Real were disgusting to go up against but so ****ing impressive. As were the Mane/Salah/Firmino years of Liverpool. Top, top teams who were up there with the best teams in the world.

We’re in a bit of a deadwood league at the very top right now.

It’s more than that. It’s the Arsenal TV social media mandem generation. Every big club has a bit of it but nobody else comes close.

There wasn't much noise from them about not joining the super league either. Chelsea pool and Man united fans were the best on that... The two North London clubs snaked it a little.

Actually agree with this to be fair. I think the Liverpool or Man City teams of a few years ago would have wiped the floor with the current top few.

That said, the recency bias argument has merit. Pre-Christmas Liverpool were preforming to a much higher standard (in the league and in Europe), if they'd finished the season like that we'd be talking about them in different tones.

I think the strength of the league overall is higher than it's ever been, hence the teams coming up struggle to get any points. The 4-10th spots are strong teams and then you look at the teams 11th-16th and none of them are places you go to expecting to win and all make a game of it playing them at home (Palace, Brentford, Man Utd, Tottenham, Everton, West Ham, etc). It does feel like it's going to take a huge outlay for a team to come up and stay up now.
