Sunderland AFC have reached an agreement with Brighton & Hove Albion for Tommy Watson to join the Seagulls in June 2025. The 18-year-old will spend the remainder of the season at the Stadium of Light before completing a move to the Amex Stadium for a significant undisclosed fee. Watson has made 14 senior appearances this campaign and scored twice, whilst registering five goals and three assists in six Premier League 2 outings. An Academy of Light graduate, the winger has also represented England at Under-18 level. Kristjaan Speakman said: “Tommy’s a very talented young player, who’s been subject to multiple offers from Premier League Clubs over the past two windows, and it’s been well-documented that we’ve declined these approaches with the intent of extending his contract. Unfortunately, this has not been possible, and we now believe this agreement represents the best long-term outcome for Sunderland AFC. Tommy first joined our Club at age six and his rise to the first team demonstrates what is possible at the Academy of Light. We are proud of the role we have played in his development and although we will be disappointed to see him depart in June, we know he’s fully committed to helping the team throughout the final stages of the season.”
Surprised it’s been announced already. Would have assumed all parties would keep it quiet until the summer. £10m a fair fee for where he is right now considering his contract.
Not sure how i feel about him playing for us again now this season. Its clearly something hes pushed for aswell for it to happen less than 2 months before the seaeon ends
Wasn't staying and wasn't signing a contract. No surprise it's been agreed and confirmed to move at end of season. Would have left in Jan if they and we had more time. Not arsed.
Hard to blame any young player wanting to go to Brighton fighting for Europe in the prem and a great record developing players, we’re being well compensated so good deal for all involved and wish him well, hope he keeps his head down and contributes for the rest of the season too
yeh not surprised in the slightest it’s happening, more surprised they’ve announced it already. I guess a journo got wind and forced their hand.
Great business again by the club he's barely played for us and clearly doesn't fancy it, so good luck Tommy cheers for the one or two decent games and the wad of cash
Can't begrudge him moving to Brighton though, top club for developing youth. If that money lets us buy a player, renew some contracts and maybe even keep a player who looked likely to leave then it's only a positive.
Agreed. Doesnt sit well with me at all this. We're fighting for promotion both him, Brighton and the club could have waited till after the playoffs to announce this. Yet another home grown player with zero loyalty. I dont want to see his name anywhere near our first team now.
