NEXT PREDICTION GAME

SUNDAY 16th MARCH 1.30pm

FULHAM v SPURS

COYS

Well, here we go again then. Another London derby. Not our best set of results. But the glimmer of hope for the future lies with the extraordinary collection of young players we have gathered together over the past few years. When Son (32) and Davies (31) are the elder statesmen; and Solanke and Bentancur (both 27) are seen to be nearing that status – it does mean we have a very young squad, and (when we remember!) an energetic approach that matches it. This week I’ve used another classic song from my youth, a Frankie Lane special – Ghost Riders in the Sky. I hope you will like the shift in the mood of the song, which reflects the fact that I was in an optimistic mood when I chose it and rewrote it. Consider it a tribute to the players that plugged the gaps, and gave us the chance to compete (successfully) for a place in the last eight of the Euro.

An old Spurs fan went striding out
One gloomy March Sunday.
In White Hart Lane he rested
Ere he went his westward way,
When all at once a coachload full
Of keen young Spurs he saw,
Vowin' they would win today -
Not settle for a draw!
Angie must go?
No - he must stay!
Young players showed him why!

The fan’s brain was on fire
And his mind began to reel.
His hopes were quickly rising
And his heartbeat he could feel.
A thrill of joy ran through him
As the coach went trundling by,
’Cos he saw the players smiling now
And he heard their forceful cry,
“Winning at home!
Winning away!”

Soon Spurs would be flying high.

Despite the taunts and unkind words,
The past they must forget!
Their names the Spurs fan proudly heard.
Their futures were now set,
'Cos they'd now be Spurs forever:
Bergvall, Odobert, and Gray,
With Spence, Tel, Sarr and Van Der Ven.
And he knew they’d win today!
Raring to go!
Happy to play!
Young Spurs players on a high!

As the players’ coach drove by him
He heard one call a name.
“If you wanna save your job, we’ll tell -
Opponents aren't the same!
Please, Angie, modify your plans
And ease our joint fatigue.
Next year we’ll do a Liverpool:
We'll win the Premier League!
Watch how we go!
See how we play!
Young Spurs players aiming high!”

Prediction: Fulham 1 Spurs 2
Scorer: Solanke, Bergvall
Cheers, Spurf! <cheers><cheers>
