Despite me having followed some of this nonsense around Trump tariffs, which I find childish and boring... I didn't know Canada and EU were targeting alcohol, no sooner I read what you said, it came up on the news about alcohol being targeted lol...I missed what was said though, will try and remember to listen next time. Tbph, I couldn't care if alcohol went up in the shops, it would actually be a good thing, because too many pubs closing and people not socialising and I'd like to see that changed - I'm sure the government could have some control over how that is targeted so it don't hurt publicans... or just do what Tim Martin did when he first started out with his brand, go for non branded stuff made locally.
In the UK especially, what do you need American alcohol for. What does America export? Whiskey and beer? It's not like UK doesn't make it's own- and better. You won't get too many grumbles if people had to buy non-American beer and whiskey.
So, moving away from the US for a bit I have been reading about a big controversy that has been in the news a lot in Norway the past few months For context, the King of Norway has ruled since 1991 and has been generally a bit of an Elizabeth figure, out of controversy - but his kids are typical royals. His first kid was Marthe, who was stripped of her royal status after she became involved with David Icke, shamanistic healing and married a science denying shaman healer. His second kid, Haakon is now the actual heir to the throne and will be King in a few years cos Harald is going to die anytime now. Haakon married an actual "commoner" not a Diana figure, but an office worker who he bumped into at a party - Mette Marit. Mette has been divorced and in two long term relationships with convicted felons, one of which she has a child with, so Haakon is actually a stepdad as well. The stepson is called Marius and Marius is a known drug user, partier and it's recently been revealed was using the royal residence Skaugum for big booze parties in which actual wanted criminals were on the visitor list including known gang leaders, all with the Crown Princesses name listed as who they were "visiting" Marius the stepson of the future king allegedly (definitely) raped a girl in the basement of Skaugum, he is on trial for this soon and it's highly believed it will be sweeped under the rug. It's raised big concerns about how in Norway, the royal family are still highly secretive - unlike British royals, the public still have no idea how much property the Norwegian royal family actually owns, where they live, etc.
I was thinking that, but wasn't sure if that was accurate or not and couldn't be bothered with googling it.
In the UK, Budweiser is brewed by Budweiser Brewing Group UK&I, a subsidiary of Anheuser-Busch InBev, at its breweries in Magor, South Wales and Samlesbury, Lancashire Jack Daniels is genuinely American
Yeah I got a big bottle of Gentleman Jack Whiskey indoors, so will not be buying anymore for a long while. Regarding Budweiser I always remember going to Busch Gardens a few times in Tampa, which is all sponsored by Budweiser, and there was an area you could get free beer, not unlimited though lol. So always associated Bud with Busch through that.
Nearly every major 'foreign' beer brand you can buy in our supermarkets is brewed here under licence (a lot of it in Northampton at the Carlsberg brewery) - and IMHO is inferior to the imported stuff, which, if you can get it, costs more ... the only exception, bizarrely, is Asahi ... which is actually brewed in Italy... by Peroni
The Brits like lager and lots of it I don't think it matters what it tastes like or where it comes from.
I've no idea how this trade nonsense effects me but if I got to the shop and something if too expensive I don't buy it. Olive oil is a good example I think there was an issue with the harvest so all of a sudden it goes up by about £1.50 so now I buy an alternative.
I think Trump's gone and spat his dummy out again and gone full tonto. Now doing stupid like no one does stupid and threatening 200% tariffs. I've got to the stage of just ignoring his childish behaviour now, afterall no one has to buy American goods. Only problem is they have a population of 340M, which if you do business with them is worth billions, however, Europe has a population double that, so he just needs to sit down and stfu.
I imagine the oil and aircraft exports are what vent be replaced easily. If you've got some dick like this in charge though it should spur countries in to fund alternatives and build more solid partnerships.
He can't win a trade war if he's declaring it on the whole world at once. The US is a huge economy, but there are plenty of alternatives... the way he's going about this attacking everyone, it's going to be like the UN declared an embargo on the US (only the US did it to itself instead).
