Always a good read John Crace's political sketch https://www.theguardian.com/politic...-to-reform-for-the-comic-relief-in-dark-times opening with:-
"These past few weeks have been grim. The world hasn’t felt less safe in decades. European leaders desperately scrabbling to secure a peace in Ukraine that isn’t a capitulation to Russia. A US manchild president who is giving a convincing impression of a Russian asset. Vladimir Putin struggling to believe his good fortune.
So a big thank you to Reform for providing so much comic relief. Never has the UK needed a good laugh more than now. Which isn’t to say that the very public squabble between Nigel Farage and Rupert Lowe was in any way unexpected."

But Lowe is right about Farage. Reform is nothing without him but , by the same token, he is the liability which is the principle reason why this political oarty cannot be taken seriously .

We should be merciful that Reform do not have leader who is both charismatic and credible.

From the comments on the linked article.
"Privately-educated, Coutts-banking former city of London commodities trader Nigel Farage.

Privately-educated millionaire businessman and former Barings Bank and Deutsche Bank employee Rupert Lowe.

Privately-educated millionaire businessman and part-time resident of Dubai, Richard Tice.

Privately-educated billionaire property developer and party treasurer, Nick Candy.

Privately-educated millionaire party chairman and former Merrill Lynch and Goldman Sachs employee, Zia Yusuf."

I did some work for Nick Candy back in the day when he was just starting out with his brother. Couple of pricks.

Now I am further into the novel I mentioned, I realise how unrealistic it is.
I mean, the fictitious American President is a longtime admirer of Putin and is thought to be the leak feeding security secrets to Russia.
    It would never happen. :emoticon-0145-shake:bandit:
The book was published in May 2022 for context.

It depends on the situation in the country itself, for Netenyahu and Putin to be caught their country needs to depose them, vote them out or the political environment needs to change significantly.

I don't think Deuterte would have been arrested if Marcos hadn't massively fallen out with his daughter (the current Vice President).

HIGNFY definitely pandering to the establishment.
Labour Welfare Reforms latest: Keir Starmer says he's had enough of people expecting free handouts, so presumably he'll be sending back all those suits and football tickets

I am not sure Marcos was behind this although agree there is acrimony between 'Bong bong' Marcos and Sara Deuterte.

At one point I was following this on Rappler. Typical problem with a country where there is no socialist party

Hope Trump will suffer the same fate.

Ah the Tesla storage lot in Seattle, where four Cybertrucks burned up. The fire department haven’t even confirmed it as arson yet, but I presume “stillgray” (just spend two minutes looking at his feed - that’s a real binfire of pro-Russian hideousness) has more information than the fire department?

Or maybe you, like him, are engaging in rhetoric?

Trump’s attitude to Canada is staggering. Only the treatment of Ukraine has been more alarming.

I can just about get my head around why he believes tariffs are an answer but everything else is so far off the scale to be incredible. Shocked that he wants the US to acquire Canada although I recognise that this was US policy in 19th century. It is completely unreasonable .

However, I think Canada's threat to add 25 per cent for the electricity or even cut the supply off also comes out of the Trump / Putin book.

I see that the stock market is tanking but investment in America is increasingly substantially as industry is clearly buying into Trump’s vision.

At least Rubio is almost saying it:

“He reiterates that he hopes Russia will say yes to the ceasefire, but if they say no "then we'll unfortunately know what the impediment is to peace here".‘

Great initial news on the Ukrainian forces accepting the ceasefire proposal. That’ll upset Os’s source “stillgray” I’d imagine, who seems to very much enjoy Ukrainians being bombed, but there we go.

Fair play to Trump’s government for getting this far at least.
