Agree with almost all of this but I think Liverpool are a top notch team, they somehow manage to fly under the radar despite being top of pretty much everything. If you watch them play they certainly don't look good enough to have been challenging some of the teams we've had winning in the past 2-3 decades but it's a results game and their results have been excellent and deserved. As regards the CL places, Liverpool, Arsenal and probably Man City should get in. That leaves Forest, Chelsea, Bournemouth, Newcastle and possibly Brighton or even Villa competing for two spots. It's not as interesting as a title race or relegation battle but it does mean there's a lot of teams who still have a lot to play for.
The only way we’ll really see how good Liverpool are is against (possibly) PSG, Real and Barca in the CL. No real tests in the prem for them. When everyone else in the league is bang average, it’s hard to use that comp as a yardstick to know how good Liverpool really are.
The big tests do indeed lie ahead for them but they already comfortably beat Real Madrid in the CL this season.
Once at Anfield when Real were bang out of form. We’ll see how a two leg KO tie goes. That would be impressive.
Fair point. If we ignore the games in which Liverpool have impressed this season then I agree they haven't looked impressive.
Milan and Lille also beat Real. Milan did it in the Bernebeu. So, again, beating Real in a one-off game against a team miles out of form doesn’t make you great. It doesn’t mean you’re NOT great either, I just can’t see how you could use that one game to decide it. Their toughest away games this year have been: Arsenal away - draw…. both teams fielded weak teams. Even game, not exactly a block buster. Newcastle away - drew. Milan away was mildly impressive but then again they’ve just been dumped out by a Dutch team so Milan are no great shakes. City away tomorrow will be a good acid test. Other than that, I’ve not watched them dismantle a great team this year. If they beat City tomorrow and get past Real and/or Barca in the CL then that will be a marker of a great team. At the moment they’re just better than the rest, and none of the rest are very good.
Liverpool have had far more impressive teams than this current one that didn’t win the league. That’s the bit that makes it all a bit underwhelming for me. If Arsenal did suddenly somehow win the league (which ain’t happening) then they’d definitely be the worst team to win the league in about as long as I can remember in my life. I just hope next year we can have at least two top teams going at it for most of the season, maybe even more than two. Look at la liga at the top. How cool would the prem be if all of City, Arsenal AND Liverpool were a point apart going into the final furlong. Just give us something like the 21/22 season with 3+ teams involved and it would be gold dust.
If Arsenal were in Liverpools position I'm pretty sure he'd be saying it was impressive given how competitive it's been. Text book mental gymnastics though 10/10
Hilarious to see tbh. They said tamhat before we played the big six teams, then after we beat them they said Madrid would do us.. Now it's a **** league and we haven't been tested
We’re the second best in the league and we’re bang average. Losing to Newcastle twice with a whimper. Beaten comfortably by West Ham. We’re still pretty good, hence why we’re still second, but miles off the levels we hit last season and hampered by injuries. But, objectively, we can’t provide you with a test… and if the second best team can’t offer you a test then who can in the prem?
It is a **** league. Just because you’re winning it doesn’t mean you’re not great though. They’re not mutually exclusive. You could well be.
