Maybe the absence of dissenting opinions is because racist views and opinions don't reflect well on the person expressing them. Funny that because if they have made the decision to withold their views they must secretly know that they are wrong in the first place.

I banned a Sunderland fan, well a supposed fan, who was on the Newcastle board, he joined, straight on to the Newcastle board and started. What shocked me, and I mean shocked me, was when he posted a photo of Newcastle in action, think it was Tioto, I know thats spelt wrong, and under it wrote something then N...r, but the full word. I was really shocked to see that, thought it was long gone.

I;m lost at why people go to all that effort just to spout that stuff. We stil have a long, long way to go.

I agree, and it shows how much Britain has improved as a society.

When I first started going to Sunderland in the mid-70s, black players were abused as a matter of course. I never joined in with the racist chants but nor did I have the balls to object to them. To be racist was the norm.

Now, fortunately, it's the other way round. The racists are in the minority and are keeping their heads down.

Agreed it does appear that progress has been made. But I fear that we have a long way to go. Also it is looking increasingly likely that whilst some forms of prejudice might be slowly on the wane others are increasing, i.e. religious intolerance. Unfortunately I think that prejudice will always be with us in one form or another!

racism is not funny, i myself have been subject to it, in the earlt 70's i was working "darn sarf" and they thought i was welsh and treat me like ****.

just thought i would add that we were brought up in shields amongst many races, but i don't remember a lot of racism, some of my friends were coloured and it never crossed my mind.

To be fair mate, if they thought you were Welsh, you deserved it ;)

One of my good pals is a Welshman, and we have his life, facts are, that is being racist, but it's acceptable racism.

Throwaway comments whilst harmless fun to some can offend others, i experienced that myself on this board a few weeks back.

There is a balance to be found.

I think these people Syd are a sad excuse for humans; they're probably bullies and have no friends. I can't stand any form of racism, there are lots of white English people I don't have time for because of their lack of values and respect for others. At the end of the day it is how you act, react and treat others that will show what type of person you are; age, sex, colour, religion or county has nothing to do with it. Getting back to the lads, as long as they put in 100% at each match I couldn't give a stuff if they were from the moon!

Got to agree with a couple of posts that rascism isn't just about colour, I live in Scotland and have been on the end of name calling and physical violence, the casual comments and newspaper attitude towards the english is just seen as fun but it gets to you.
Been football fans we can all be accused of rascism as my missus pointed out to me as I screamed abuse at the TV against Toon fans whilst watching the derby game (had a ticket but laid up with a back injury), isn't this a form of rascism?

Syd's articles seem to range from the slightly ludicrous to the highly serious. I quite like his ramblings involving walks with the dog, previous divorces, and memories from childhood, etc.

I will be open and say I do not like this one - on this forum.

A football forum is for discussing the game, and here, SAFC in particular. It is not imho for political topics. If we come across racism then we should quite rightly rebut - and engage to defeat those proponents in debate - but not here.

Ban racists, and any ott political comments. Keep this site for SAFC and football matters.

Sorry Lad but think this is an appropriate place to discuss rascism as it is rife in football and Syd makes a good point how can you be a rascist and support a team made up of so many nationallities like Sunderland.

Froggy. I posted very carefully and tried to get over my views in as few words as poss - I may not have succeeded - if so this is my error? If you would be kind enough to give me a minute to expand....?

Syd posed the question "....the question is obvious, how can you cheer your Sunderland team, accept them as our heroes and our team then justify racism in any form....?" I can't, don't and won't, justify or seek to justify racism!!

We've had the authorities and club being explicit in their aims with the campaigns to kick racism out of football/show racism the red card, and I am following their lead. I did make the statement "Ban racists, and any ott political comments", and I feel that we should show NO tolerance in such views.

I believe that the not606 board is (and has made) clear our/their revulsion of such views and for me oxygen aka publicity, for those who express them should be denied.

I'm comfortable with my views, I respect yours, and I reckon we have no real differences on core subjects, maybe just the path ??

mackemwelder - I'll give you the Belgian's don't brew a bad drop, but not a patch on the b****y krauts - and b4 anybody says anything I have several good german friends who when we meet enjoy taking the piss out of the English as much as I enjoy taking the piss out of them. Have spent some fantastic nights out in boonies of the Odenwald. <cheers>
