What I'd like to know is who we've been scouting as potential replacements for Marcelino, Kenny and Shane; more generally, the experienced core on whose dependability the younger developing players rely.

Marcelino is only 24 and this is the first season that he has properly nailed down a starting position, but I am sure that they have a catalogue of players that they are watching for every position

Apparently we have had several members of the recruitment team watching Theo Aasgard of Wigan. 22 year old attacking midfielder from Norway. Seems to have an eye for goal.

Interesting player at a good age who plays CAM or on either flank. Here's a compilation of his goals:

And another, showing more of his all round technical skills and passing for Wigan and the Norway U21s:

But, he is one of the likeliest to move on, and despite being only 24, by the end of this season he will have clocked up close to 200 senior appearances (Norwich, UC in Chile, national cup competitions, Chile at international level). He's definitely now part of our "experiencd core".
The underlying point is that these players won't be replaceable by buying potential for development; they will need to be replaced by experienced players, with all that that implies in terms of associated costs.

Making shots like those, the question is why didn't he scored 30.

Alan Domeracki, from Dundee U, left sided CD, has just passed a medical to sign for us. 18 years old, will join the development side initially. Must have heard good things from Manny. May even be playing together for us in the not too distant future.

Edit:- Just seen another article that says he is a left side midfielder, so contrasting storys.

That article says he's a CM:

"He is a creative left-sided midfielder who has all the qualities to progress further in the game, having been in the academy for more than seven years."

It also says that Aasgaard is unlikely in this window:

"Thelo Aasgaard is a player they've tracked but are unlikely to make a move for in the short term, having already signed Lewis Dobbin and Matěj Jurásek this month."

Well we can cross this one off, Thelo Aasgaard has just signed for Luton Town

Does this imply we can expect to see Marcondes's contract extended?
Not directly, but I would be surprised if we didn't offer him a deal. He's settled in well and has been a success on the pitch I would say. 4 goals and 4 assists and seems to have his head screwed on.

He'll be 30 on 9th March. I'd say the one-year extension already available is the most we could offer him. He himself is looking for more than that.
