Yeah, good post. It's what RLB seems to prefer with the ballard sub to try and add more steel / defence in the middle. We just concede far far too many late goals so it's fair to say this approach needs revisiting.

Putting on attackers, when the opposition have no option but to lump it, doesn't work ... especially late in the game.

Plymouth would've done exactly the same, if we'd brought on an attacker, but we'd have had one less defender.

It's about getting possession and attack is the best form of defence always. The data is there to show we concede more later goals than anyone (IIRC) so surely it's worth revisiting this approach of putting more defenders on?

Who do you drop though, that's the question.
Its a real headache that one, looking back Riggs highlight of the season so far was his goal against Boro, he is a real fox in the box imo , and my wildcard would be to play him there from the start for this one with the ELF in behind him, then the options get tough, the only formation that would accommodate this is a 3/5/2 and at this point I hand over to RLB . <laugh>
If it were me I would rest Wilson for this one , put him and Roberts on late on and have them rev,d up for the Boro game

I've wondered if Rigg might be better played on the left side channel rather than the right....swap him and ELF over.
For what its worth I would start with
    patto
    hume/meph/O/9
    rigg/elf/dan/jobe/adil
    mayenda /wilson

using rigg elf and adil to attack at every opportunity with rigg regularly getting alongside the front two as and when.
its really RTB,s diamond with a twist.

If this offends any sensitive souls or stands on any toes, apologies in advance .

That's a great phrase, and sounds good, but doesn't work in situations like yesterday.

PLymouth would've ignored the extra attacker and carried on regardless, they had no other option.

They could try but with more players to help with possession they would have found it significantly harder to play in our final third. That was my issue with RLB subs yday. He just rinsed and repeated his old approach.

I wouldn't have booed, nor do I think it's fair to boo the lads after this season, but it just seemed like a natural frustration boo. Don't think there's much point arguing over it.

Yeah it was massive frustration like. There was a canny bit of venting from the roker end. It just seemed to be destiny to happen, you could see it coming.

    I was ashamed tbh.

Plymouth are rock bottom but their fans wouldn't have booed if it had finished 2-1.

This is why I prefer away games ...

... the support, I'm sorry to say, puts the home crowd to shame.

Those who booed that team, off the pitch, wouldn't be missed if that was their last game.

Rigg was applauding and looking at the crowd, if he leaves this summer I wouldn't blame him.

Sobered up. Bad day at the office. As long as RLB & the players learned something from yesterday we move on.

I disagree mate, I think it's quite natural to argue about it.

Some will, some definitely won't ... they'll be repeating the same thing from now til Boro.

Great game agaisnt Boro to do it too.

Would love to turn them over on their patch. Seems like an age since we showed up at their ground.

I’m in agreement. At this point they were smashing the ball up to that big mountain up top. Makes no sense to put attackers on

I think that’s where having different types of attacker helps. The mark hughes type who can hold onto the ball with back to goal, win duels and turn defenders can help retain the ball and stem the flow. The issue is we don’t have one so have to try something else. Ballard came on when that huge forward did and the man mountain won most flick ons. So trying to stem the crosses was the intention with Hjelde. Cirkin had failed at that. It didn’t work sadly. Without crosses and hoofs they were nothing which is why I was irked they got a point.

Bad day at the office, can’t get too disheartened but if it isn’t broken don’t fix it ! Strange team selection, I do think RLB needs to address the defence we just look all over the place when under pressure. My only criticism of RLB is sitting on a lead, our strength is attack, just keep the foot on the peddle. The booing was just embarrassing, I wish people would just stay at home if they want to do that, serves no purpose to a team full of youngsters

After his first 6 games Mephan has descended to the ordinary, but its all O/9's fault as we both well know :emoticon-0105-wink: .
