Match Preview;
As it stands there is very little between us and Sheffield Wednesday. We both sit on 38 points, us 10th and them 11th only due to a two goal superior goal difference. From what I remember of it, we looked pretty even during our 1-1 draw at Hillsborough in September, and over the course of the last four months there clearly isn't much between us. Based on current form, however, we should go into this game with confidence.
Sheffield Wednesday have lost two, drawn three and won one of their last five games. Their top scorer is Josh Windass, with 10 goals. Like us, they'll be hoping for a strong second half/final third/final two fifths (depending on how picky you want to be) of the season, and a run towards a playoff place come May. Their manager, Danny Röhl, has been with them since October 2023 and has managed 29 wins from his 71 games in charge...plus he is now officially in his mid-30's (35)...he was 34 when he took the helm there. Makes me feel old. Their top scorer is Josh Windass with 10, followed by Michael Smith with 5 then Barry Bannan with 4.
As for us, four wins and a draw from our last five, and like Sheffield Wednesday, we sit just 4 points outside the playoff places. I don't think that is likely to happen, and it'd probably be too soon if we do somehow get up this year, but here is the challenge...without wanting to wish time away, how can we finish the year strongly, and carry that form into next season? Our top scorer is still Michael Frey with 5, followed by Jimmy Dunne and Rayan Kolli with 4 each. I do feel though we still need to add a consistent goalscorer to our front line, because almost every time I do these threads the other team has a player who has scored more than our top scorer. Could Celar be the answer to this problem? Alfie Lloyd? Paul Smyth? Michael Frey? Discuss.
Team news and manager comments to go up asap, enjoy if you'll make it to HQ, and as always...
...COME ON YOU SUPER HOOPSA!!!
