There has been a lot of angst re the WHO for a number of years. It was once solely concerned with the effect of disease, it's spread and it's cure. Sometime before the pandemic , it moved to attempting to sway public opinion on health in an increasingly ideological manner. It became overtly political. It promoted all sorts of fairly extreme views, including abortion worldwide to full term, teaching children as young as six about masturbation and, chillingly, made recommendations that children between 9-12 should. "make a conscious decision to have sexual experiences or not". We know what that means, and they were not shy of defending the position. It was craven in it's behaviour towards China during COVID and still is. It has a draft plan to force all member nations to, at it's behest, implement any measures necessary, at any time for what they might think are good reasons. It's not the organisation it was at all. Nor is it's parent body. There is no consensus. Despite most nations disagreeing with many of their positions, they never yield. On this, Trump is right, and this time it will have an impact. Last time it didn't, as it takes around twelve months to leave it. The UK will now be the biggest single paymaster I think. You would wonder at that.
Yes. If the US leaves, it cannot remotely hope to fulfill it's proper, original role which it did well once . But the WHO would never eradicate smallpox now, it would take fright at what needed to be done. It is not doing its job and has failed badly in heading off Asian flu epidemics before COVID. Something will need to replace it, but it should be a science based and not ideologically based as the WHO is now, and openly states the fact. You could say the same for the UN, which is now an openly anti Western pressure group.
Unfortunately yes. As with many, long time institutional bodies, national and supranational, they become flabby, political and lose their original focus. Look at the National Trust. My brother used to volunteer for them. He was told he must attend a diversity course to continue helping with his own unpaid time. He's not the only one to decline. Good people being let down by grand standing Quangocrats, who are milking a very good living .
Can you see anything that could go wrong if we all leave everything that isn’t how we want it and do our own thing?
We don't "do it together" though, that's the point. It is because the WHO has become a dysfunctional political animal that it's end is nigh. Really, any organisation that has openly advocated for nine year olds to decide whether or not to engage in sex, and defend that stance, is not a Health Organisation. It needs replacing with a proper body not driven by a political agenda. As does the UN.
Serious question, are you capable of having a political debate with people without descending to name calling,do you actually hate people who have a different political view as yourself ?
The EU aren’t too impressed with them neither. https://www.europarl.europa.eu/thinktank/en/document/EPRS_BRI(2020)651910
So you don’t think US have done the right thing going it alone in favour of corporate healthcare ? You can’t go it alone and collaborate at the same time.
They might possibly be dumb in your opinion but why the name calling and derogatory language in your replies
