And morally wrong too!! I feel for Simons too There’s certainly a player in there Good pedigree but been messed around and probably needs to go to further his career
true its also not like the club was not unaware he was almost certainly going to get a ban but if he's with us for next season, we are laughing in my opinion newcastle bought tonali, he got that gambling suspension, missed 3/4 of last season and is now a regular this
It's an initial loan for a reason. Upfront outlay won't be that huge but if the clause to make it permanent is triggered that will be when we become liable for the bulk of the potential outlay. Ultimately it's not something we can reasonably make a judgment on without knowing the finer details. Won't stop certain individuals trying though.
I don't think we've had any surprises with Zambrano, we only had the option of getting him due to the ban hanging over him and I'm pretty sure we knew there would be a ban (he wasn't being played even when he was available). If the ban is shortened to just this season, I expect us to sign him, if not we may well just forget it.
I feel at this stage in Simons career he isn't able to control a game the way you would like from someone in that position and he lacks the aggression to compensate. I think he has the capacity to develop but for now, a fresh challenge might be best for both him and the club.
I do think it's naive to bin off Simons. One of those who isn't exciting but you can see us having to turn to him again in the future and he wouldn't let us down. I wouldn't be selling him unless we get a decent fee.
Are we doing charity work? The club had a good idea he was going to get a ban and signed him anyway. Another brilliant decision by Acun to sign a player who wouldn’t play most of the season.
If his ban gets reduced and we secure him I think it may be worthwhile. Admittedly a lot of ifs though
Without this charity work we had 0 chance of signing him, now we have a decent chance. For a relatively small outlay, it’s a gamble worth taking imo
Yeh, that's it. It's ifs and buts both ways, so whether it will be worth it remains to be seen. On balance, it was probably a risk worth taking and I think we signed Alzate because of the expectation he would be out.
He gets right up 'em when they're not protecting the ball well enough. He'll destroy Burstow in training.
Simon’s may well turn into a decent player, he’s got all the attributes but he’s rarely put them all to use. I don’t think we’ve messed him or round nor is naive to move him on. He’s had a very good chance to play here this season, he’s not really taken it. We can definitely improve upon him, we are clearly looking to do so, and as such he is becoming surplus. Best for both parties for him to move somewhere new, I expect he will end up dropping a division.
Yeah, he was a very nice footballer but too lightweight to impose himself most of the time. Might have filled out since though, he was only 21/22 when he was our player iirc.
