Apparently it's a 'truck' the driver then got out the vehicle and started to open fire....welcome to 2025!

No idea on description of person at the mo and no idea of motive, all that's known is it is in the French part of New Orleans. I just saw dead bodies and blood on the street, well I assume dead, certainly not moving.

“The 8th District is currently working a mass casualty incident involving a vehicle that drove into a large crowd on Canal and Bourbon Street,” NOLA Ready reported. “There are 30 injured patients that have been transported by NOEMS and 10 fatalities.”

The tragedy struck around 3:15 a.m., just as New Year’s Eve celebrations in the French Quarter were winding down. WGNO reported that a vehicle drove into pedestrians at high speed, causing chaos and devastation.

Witness accounts describe the driver exiting the vehicle after the crash and opening fire, prompting police to return fire. CBS News reporter Kati Weis relayed witness statements, but these details remain unverified as investigations continue.

U.S. Army veteran Jim Mower, who was on Bourbon Street with his wife, described the horrifying scene. Writing on X, he said:

“Was on Bourbon Street in New Orleans with my wife tonight about 20 minutes ago. SUV came down speeding and running people over. Mass casualty event, tried to [administer] first aid but most were dead. Estimate double-digit deaths.”

Emergency services quickly arrived at the scene, closing off Bourbon Street and providing medical assistance to the injured.

The French Quarter, particularly Bourbon Street, is one of New Orleans’ most iconic and tourist-heavy areas. On New Year’s Eve, thousands of revelers gather to celebrate, making the area particularly crowded and vulnerable to such an attack.

This incident has not only claimed numerous lives but has also shaken a city known for its resilience and hospitality.

Authorities, including the New Orleans Police Department (NOPD), are actively investigating the incident. A police spokesperson told CBS News that initial reports indicate a vehicle intentionally plowed into a group of people. While the number of injuries and fatalities has been confirmed by NOLA Ready, the full details surrounding the driver’s motive and actions are still emerging.

Public safety officials have cordoned off the area, and updates are expected as more information becomes available.

As emergency services continue to respond, authorities urge the public to stay away from the affected area and follow official updates.

This is a developing story, and additional details will be shared as they emerge.

Two cops shot as well (currently stable). Police said it was a deliberate/intentional attempt to run over as many people as possible with a pick up truck - he had driven around their barriers, sound like he went to great lengths to cause as much carnage as possible. Been deemed a terrorist attack. 10 dead and 35 injured.

His picture is all over Twitter now in regards to the job he did, I've not put it up in case it is the wrong guy. Whoever he was he's dead now anyway.

Ex US Army apparently and had an IS flag in the vehicle along with explosives. They're saying they don't think he acted alone either.

Apparently the suspect drove up on the walkway to get round the obstructions. Although there seemed to be some dispute if the barricades were working properly and it broke out into a bit of an argument. I'd suggest whatever the problem was distracted from ensuring any potential threat via the walkway was overlooked. The car he drove was a hire vehicle. I believe he was a war veteran. an ISIS flag was in the vehicle, that has been confirmed. The FBI do not believe he was working alone and are looking for other suspects, so a few doors will get an early hours call I suspect.

Sounds like it could have been even worse than it was.

Scary part is these are the same cops that protect the super bowl, although it's been cancelled for tonight, I do hope any further suspects are not a risk to the rearranged event, especially if they are dabbling with explosives.

Cops normally keep a low profile at these street events, there main job being to protect any road exits in, and they couldn't even manage that properly.

Don't think it was the superbowl tonight but a college yank football event. Though the superbowl is being held in New Orleans this year.

Yeah you're right mate, is that what they call the Sugar Bowl?

Been a vehicle explosion outside Trump hotel in Vegas too. No indication it's related at the moment but seems an unusual coincidence if not
