Haven't found this game on BBC or Sky. Think it's the only place they could fit in this rescheduled game..strange night though.

May have thought attendance would be better and there would be more recovery time before the next match.

Shame. May potentially be stream-able from abroad as a result however.

Wish I could go to more home games myself - sods law that the most exciting 2 seasons at home we have had in the 15 years of my saints fan history happen to have come along when I physically cant make it to most of the games as a result of living in the alps for one and moving to london for the second.

Sometimes it's due to Police issues etc... Depending on nearby games or times or events around the same time!

Out of nowhere, it's suddenly just occured to me that this doesn't make much sense. We're the home team, not Bristol City. So why does it matter if the game is played at the same time as Rovers play? If Pompey were playing at home at the 31st, i could understand it - but they're away to Leicester. So I'm still not sure exactly why our game got moved.

It's a police issue. Extra police will be required to work in Southampton on New Years eve. Those that would be involved in the match if it were to be played on the 31st, would also have to be involved in the New Years Eve celebrations long into the early hours of the morning. This would work out to be too many hours worked for these police officers in one day and couldn't happen. Therfore, there would be a police shortage at either the football match or in the city centre during the New Years eve celebrations. Maybe even both events. This would not be good.

Therefore, the match has been brought forward by one day so that there is adequate police presence/numbers for both events.

Thanks for clearing that up. It is not on TV at all BTW. I think it is better having it on the friday as I think that means we will have an extra days prep on Brighton............think this game could be a sell out as it is the last home game until 23rd Jan 2012!
