Must have meant FA Cup. Either that or he's going senile. Oh wait just read the exchange. Definitely the latter then.
That's my point... I remember us winning the FA Cup in 1981. The Ricky Villa walk of shame in the first game, Tommy Hutchinson of city scoring our equaliser after he gave City the lead. The there was the replay which ended 3-2 with Ricky Villa scoring a brilliant winner. Could say the same for 1982 and 1991. I have no idea who won the Charity shields those years.
It's possible - we did it in 1971 beating Liverpool after Arsenal did the double - so have Brighton ... but they are anomalies - the norm is you get to play in it after winning either the League or FA Cup ... You certainly never get to play in it when finishing third in a two horse race ...
It didn't happen anyway! We beat them 4 - 0 in '96, I think. Newcastle have never beaten us in that. Or anything of note.
The charity shield is the finest football ground bait out there ... but the problem with fishing (as any angler knows) is getting the main bait through the many tiddlers to where the big fish feed ... Fosssecrates 2024
I had to look it up, admittedly. But Newcastle have won the Community Shield once, and it was in 1909, at Stamford Bridge......so not sure what RCL is on about
