I trust whatever the government choose to do in regards to Syria, if it helps people rebuild their lives so be it, the same with Gaza. Tbph mate I wouldn't want to live out there so I don't begrudge them £50M which is only small fry in a very big pond of finances.

I think it's because there is a lack of understanding and why WASPI all came about.

Women before the 1990's were generally not allowed in private pension schemes, if you then add to that the Tories started the ball rolling in 1995, that meant any women born in the 50's were by that time 45 years old (or less), with no private pension scheme and thinking they would be retiring in 15 years thereafter. I can take the kick that was given to me, but I can see how it wasn't fair on women. Trouble is this has all evolved since and the original arguments seem to get lost. Then for the government to think the women were going to keep working, as I've said on here before is ridiculous, they will just stick two fingers up and retire regardless, thus no benefit whatsoever to the economy as we are now finding out, well other than as baby sitters for the grandkids, something else that has been raised in the past, that would be lost to young familes if the grannies were forced to work.

a huge chunk only paid married womens NIC so were not entitled to SRP in their own right . Years ago a good 60% of women had SRP based entirely on the husbands entitlement - it was 60% of the full rate .

To be honest, maybe i'm a bit dumb and pig headed (only started a pension in 2020) but i have always just saved money so that i know i have something for the future (easier said than done). If thats via assets or cold hard cash, then there shouldn't really be that much difference to that and a private pension (only difference is tax efficiencies).

I know nowadays its mandatory for everyone to have a pension if they are on the PAYE scheme but i don't see the difference really. I guess at most i could understand a means tested compensation for those who are the worst off, especially those that are single but i would imagine couples and home owners back then are still way off better than most right now. Obviously this is with my young hat on and maybe i am not grasping the fact that people who are in their 60s should probably not be working. Saying that my mum and stepdad only retired at 65.

I didn't hear you shouting hypocrisy when the same British press went on about party, party, party, 24 hours of every day. It appears you only say that when Starmer gets called out for not having this magic money tree when he promised everyone everything. Every fooker apart from Keir seemed to know there was no bloody money left in the kitty except for him, rather oddly. Even me and Duggie were discussing the missing billions before KS was elected, yet somehow our newly elected PM didn't know about the massive blackhole, maybe he should contact the not606 finanical department in future for guidance. Keir hasn't even had to deal with a virus that kept everyone off work on paid leave, and he never had to deal with the Ukraine crisis when it first kicked off, but throw the Waspi women and pensioners at him and it's as if someone suddenly burned down his magical orchard of money trees. Having worked for a couple years in the Insurance and Pension Industry I can confirm that to get anything sufficient to retire on from a Private or Work Pension the minimum you need to invest in one is Thirty Years (same as to qualify for the full State Pension) The minimum to get a modest return is 20 - 25 yrs and even with this you can be stuffed up by something like 9/11 which I got stung on

I think for me there's also a misconception that every single person can carry on working until retirement age, whatever that might be. When actually that's a lot further from the truth than people realise, I saw something the other day where some people were laughing at a down and out, and a comment said a lot of people are just one wage slip from being in financial trouble and the same applies to your health, until it affects you, you think you're ok, then suddenly you are not and is there a safety net to protect you. If you own your own home and have over £16k in savings you can forget about any financial support, and if those savings are your future nest egg, you are fooked. I love the way politicians from all parties have played people off one another over this, I think it's sad, because those same people dissing it now don't know what fate or fortune awaits them in later life, until it's too late. People like to point at the French for inspiration for always standing together, something Britain sadly lacks and is very evident throughout this forum.
