He looks like he'll play tomorrow, relax. Last thing we want is to have a Nwaneri scenario where he's being thrown in and expected to win the game for us
Yeah, he'll be past it soon. Whatever, we don't build a winning team on sentiment (although there was an element of that in Klopp's philosophy) - if our academy players are good enough, I'm sure they'll get their chance. If not, we have to bring in youngsters from outside for the future.
Yes that is correct but it is also a bit of a shame. What if we did this 6 or 7 years ago. Oh that trent lad isn't the best, let's buy in a 17 year old rb Oh that jones lad isn't the best let's.... Having an academy full of sterling's (the one who actually succeeded but turned around and said I'm off at the first good deal coming to him) is also a risk. At least you get a few more years out of a local lad and a bit more effort too. All these young lads have no assurance of playing any more than where thry are but they are coming with expectations so it'll be interesting to see who actually makes it. This is our strategy in the end so slot will have to start using them. He won't have the luxury of not doing so.
I think there are two ways of looking at what Slot's doing with regard to the youngsters, either trusting he knows what he's doing or being concerned that he doesn't. As I said the other day, we don't know him well enough yet to be able to determine which it is.
In the end either way thr clubs overall strategy is clesr and his success will depend on following that. He is not getting millions to buy mature players so he will get what he gets for tjr market but will need kids coming in. He's been handed a squad with kelleher, bradley, quansah, Jones, Elliott and to a lesser extent trent and gomez. There's very few massive.buys in there (alisson, vvd, nunez, Szoboszlai) So if he wants a full squad then he's got to help young players improve and play. Hopefully the loanees maybe come back and be an option. Chambers i have my doubts. Very talented by weak physically. Beck only decent. Bajcetic. We will see. He needs to work hard now. Really hard. Gordon. Norwich manager has hung him out to dry talking about how he shows up in training so I expect him to be recalled. Doak is doing OK but end product has been his issue. 16 games 2 goal and 5 assists isn't too bad so hopefully he kicks on.
I think that the first thing a new manager has to do is try to get the best results he can, and to do that he has to use players he knows can perform. In the meantime he, and the other coaches can study the younger, up and coming players and assess who has a future and who doesn't.
I agree mostly but he did move some youngsters on almost as the first thing he did. On the face of it, not much time was given to assess if Blair, Clark and van den Berg would fit especially when Chiesa ended up being the only signing.
He's not the manager. He's the first team coach, so you're right, his responsibility is getting results from the first team. The other coaches are responsible for development and player pathways.
Yes, I did think of that when I was writing the previous post. I can't say why he chose some and not others, perhaps we'll find out one day. I do think it makes sense for him to go with the experienced players from the start to get good results quickly - if he'd begun early with a mix of old and new and we were faffing about outside the top six nobody would be happy and his job would be less secure. Only time will tell if he has the right approach and intends to bring in the young players sparely so they can benefit from the experience around them.
I was sceptical, as you know, but he's had a great start and the impact of his halftime talks and tactical substitutions have been brilliant. His philosophy so far seems to be play your strongest XI at all times. Time will tell how he adapts as circumstances change.
Rashford has basically announced he's looking to transfer in Jan. 'Wants a new challenge' according to him.
Well i would have moved those on. It's not that most of the decisions have not been on the mark for value. It's that there was no way Gordon was going to do well going to Norwich with a direct senior competitor who has the advantage of actually being fit and in favour. The loan dept imo let the plauer down there (not slot) If they genuinely felt loaning bajcetic to linders was going to assure him of lots of games then fair enough but again he needed elite training and pushing on by us but we ended up retaining morton to do the same job or less and won't play him either. All in all it's better to go if your manager won't play you and so far slot seems willing to bring kids along on away trips but not willing to give them any real time amd pushes. I think this is something to watch as it unfolds as we've had quite the run but it's unfortunate that we seem to have put quansah in a low confidence place by the actions and the few words in pu lic really do nothing to help. When you won't give him a game it speaks far more to him than and press conference words.
I think a change of surroundings could well do him good. Whether or not it actually will remains to be seen.
