Mate the US have been chucking missiles in and Turkey are going to grab their opportunity as well in the North. Everyone wants a piece of the action.

Turkey has been heavily involved in the north since 2016 though. Their horse in the race is their fear of the Kurdish groups expanding in the same region.

Israel's concern is obvious. Assad had an Arsenal of sarin and phosphorus gas warheads sitting on their doorstep and there is no knowing whose hands they could fall into now. Dormant ISIS cells are reactivating in the less populated east of the country.

The world needs to do everything it can to help Syria navigate a path through this.

The army being incompetent doesn't mean that Syria doesn't have air bases, weapon stock piles and chemical weapons arsenals.

The Israelis destroying this means it all has to be rebuilt. Setting them back years.

The Afghan Army had bases, equipment etc left by the US and now the Taliban wears it. Just because the Afghans had it didn't mean they used it properly.

Syria did not lack defensive equipment nor infrastructure but in fact lacked troops.

Israels own defence minister has stated they are targeting Syrias air defence systems. How does destroying a countries air defences NOT set them back years? Cos the rockets have stars of Davids on them?

"Defence Minister Israel Katz meanwhile said the Israeli military would "destroy heavy strategic weapons" - including missile and air defence systems."

The path is clear, bomb them to the stone age to prevent the wrong people getting equipment that CK said doesn't actually exist. <laugh>

So you would prefer a version of events where the equipment being destroyed - much of which is weaponry banned under the Geneva Protocol - to fall into the hands of various rebel factions, or worse: ISIS, or even worse: to disappear entirely and get smuggled out of the country to god knows where?

    I sincerely hope not.

Syria as a country and as a military hasn't existed for almost a decade now. The civil war did that, not Israel. Destroying a few dozen air defence systems means bugger all in the grand scheme of things. They can be replaced extremely quickly. Chemical and biological weapons research centres, on the other hand, cannot.

Bizarre exaggeration followed by a deliberate misquote.

Strange. The tens of thousands of Syrians out celebrating on the streets don't seem to share this viewpoint.

And as if on cue, the OPCW has just released a statement expressing 'grave concern' that Assad's stockpiles of chemical weapons might now fall into the wrong hands and that the situation needs to be secured with 'urgent haste'.

Honestly brb and welshie just head off to bed now, you're done for the evening <laugh>

That wasn't the point you responded to originally tho, the SAA had military infrastructure that has been jointly built between themselves, Russia and Iran to support the regime. This stuff including missile systems and air defences is advanced technology, as is their air bases as the Syrian Air force was key in Assads survival.

You pretending these things don't exist is bizarre, Syria not existing as a state has no bearing on if Damascus owned advanced military infrastructure, which they openly did, as Israel have just said they're going to bomb it.

Now you're on one about ISIS getting dirty bombs, which was never the point. The new regime in Damascus won't even have air defence systems, Israel is completely disarming Syria and setting it back years.

Your opinion on if it's right or wrong is of no consequence, it's what's happening.

The statement the Syrian military hasn't existed for a decade now is just a completely false statement. Up until last month the Syrian Army was using artillery placements to bombard rebel towns, to claim that the SAA hasn't existed for a decade now is just blatantly untrue.

Everyone gives them the middle finger. Can you see Putin turning himself in anytime soon or his allies arresting him over the warrant?

    No

But the events in the middle east have been very bad for Putin and Russia.

First the missile defence systems they sold to Iran just didn't work - they didn't manage to stop Israeli rockets. Now Assad a man they pumped billions into keeping alive is removed and they have had to evacuate from Syria.

This war in Ukraine is the Russian Federations Afghanistan. Sunk-cost fallacy is making it impossible for them to withdraw.

Difference being that we (the west) expect dictators and tin pot warlords to try and swerve the international criminal courts. But when the leader of a first world nation, in cahoots with the UK and the US does it, then it's a big problem for the validity of the ICJ and the whole premise of justice.

It's exactly the same point I made. Hence why I said

(ICJ going after Assad).....has been further complicated with Netanyahu's complete disregard for the international rule of law, labelling the ICJ 'anti-semitic' after they issued a warrant for his arrest for his own human rights atrocities.

Not sure how you've missed that tbh.

I think the ICJ lost all legitimacy with the world when it failed to prosecute Bush and Blair. If they can get away with that, why should anyone bother listening to them?

Huh? How does Netanyahu calling them anti-Semitic complicate the ICJ going after Assad? It has no bearing on that whatsoever and is completely irrelevant.

Agree with this mate. I reckon this has got yank finger prints all over it. Russia had a foothold in the region through Syria and had secured some important strategic ports for themselves out there. Americans couldn’t be having that.

Putin will be begging Trump behind closed doors to bring the Ukraine war to an end. Obviously keeping every inch of land that his troops have secured, at the moment.

The opposite in fact. Netanyahu ridiculing the legitimacy of the ICJ gives every other murderous butcher the same excuse to swerve justice.

Take your point about Bush and Blair though, they both should have been tried.
