Bring it back, why should I a widower living alone pay the same as a family of 3,4 or 5. It’s just not on.
Rant over

We have a massive housing shortage down here and it has wreaked havoc on the market. A run down family home costs about $700k where I am and that's not even that bad compared with other places.

It coincides with older generations staying in their family homes long after their families have left.

I have little problem with that but I wouldn't expect them to be exempt from the costs everyone else pays. That would feel strange to me.

The whole thing should be abolished, The governments have us convinced that paying this **** is normal when if you break it down the truth is it is daylight robbery and governmental greed.
  • You go to work and have PAYE tax
  • You buy things and pay VAT value added tax
  • You buy your home and pay tax
  • You sell your home and pay tax
Now you pay tax to live in your home that you own and have your council tax to pay for council services because the government decentralized funding.
I remember the riots and still think the whole system stinks

I quite like free healthcare and school and roads etc though.

we already had them and the healthcare is not free that is what national insurance is for. Education comes from central government and even that has been reduced and further education needs to be funder individually.

So every political party has enforced it, none of the opposing parties have opposed it, but you think it's a scam? ok then

This country is in billions of debt by the way

I thought it was immutable fact that taxes paid for the public services that lift a country up but if we are arguing let's say it is my belief that taxes pay for the public services that lift a country up.

Where do you think taxes are going?

I have no problem with paying taxes but the truth is the system was changed to extract more tax from the working classes. The UK is a country which is generating a very high amount of money in taxable income and in NI income but my problem is the stealth taxes and the wastage of money.

Issac Butterfield done a video on the housing crisis in Australia a few months ago. I didn't know it was that bad.

Can't speak for the entire country but where I am in rural Victoria is just ****ed and then Melbourne and Sydney are ****ing appalling. Sydney especially.

That's about half of the country covered.

Me and the wife are circling buying a rundown and cramped piece of **** one story weatherboard construction just to get out of renting. $700k if we are lucky.
