Buying a new No1 in January is pretty much impossible without some major de-pantsing, barring some potential gem in MLS or the J League

Kelleher is (in theory) possible, as Marmardashvili is joining the Mousers next summer
As I suggested in the other thread, I'd be prepared to break the bank (in goalkeeping terms) for Kelleher.

Kelleher won't leave Pool unless he's guaranteed the number 1 spot, he's more or less said himself he wants to be a number 1 and I don't think Ange feels he needs to replace/ upgrade Vicario yet, especially as he made him part of the "leadership group" this summer to join Son, Romero and Maddison.

Besides January is around 6 weeks away, I'm pretty sure that's the average time span of a foot fracture injury so every chance Vicario will be back not long after the window opens. We definitely do need a new keeper but I don't think we'll be signing someone who can displace Vicario, I'd be very surprised if we did anyway.

Not even sure if we can seek an emergency loan at the moment either seeing as we have three other senior keepers at the club, despite the fact Austin and Whiteman have a combined 10 mins of competitive football between them for Spurs.

Kelleher is a far superior keeper to Vicario. Of course he should be #1 if he came in.
If Ange doesn't think we need a better keeper then that does nothing for my confidence in him either.
Mid-season complicates things, agreed, but sometimes necessity overrides normality.

That’s a very bold claim to make to be honest.

Kelleher looks a very good backup keeper but it’s impossible to tell how good he is in comparison to other first choice ones.

IIRC a new No2 has been on the docket for January since the summer window anyway, so we likely nudged it up from a quiet deal to do in the background to one that needs a degree of focus

I've watched a lot of him, both for Pool and Ireland and I seriously stand by that assessment. He's got far more to his game than Vic imho.

But listen, if he wasn't still injured for another couple of months I'd probably be advocating Big Gav! <laugh>

Travers is probably the sensible, achievable January signing.

Chelsea have been linked with Kelleher as they also need to upgrade their keeper.

Need to learn from the past and not sign back ups but rather sign players that can compete.

In theory I definitely agree but there are very, very few clubs with two keepers that are close in quality (and good quality at that). Best we had was Hugo and Vorm and even then Hugo was clearly a far superior keeper.

I think if we do seriously look to upgrade Vicario it'll probably be in the summer and it'll need to be someone with genuine pedigree. We should've gotten the Raya deal done as that was a prime opportunity to bring in a top keeper. Hopefully another opening like that pops up by then.

Personally I’d go for a number one as I don’t particularly rate Vicario at all so that’s probably why I’m so keen for the club to sign a top keeper.

Don’t like to use them as an example but Arsenal got it right by upgrading on Ramsdale when a lot of people didn’t think they needed to.

Everyone but a portion of Arsenal fans knew they were upgrading Ramsdale to be fair. Raya’s quality.

As for Vicario, I don’t think he’s anywhere near as bad as some make out but obviously if we can upgrade on him then great, same for any player. I don’t think there’s an abundance of great keepers at the moment though, Unai Simon might be our best shout but he’d probably cost north of £70m so no idea whether we’d be open to spending that or whether he’d even fancy joining us, Bilbao players tend to be very loyal to the club too.

But they still wish they signed Dave Beasant...

Carlo and Gomes was quite a good pair as I recall. The lunatic Brazilian and the calm experienced Italian. Mind you, it must have been fun for the defence adapting to the different keepers!! <laugh>

If Vicario started to command his area we would have ourselves the new prime Ederson or Allison imo

He is getting a lot in the game right so an upgrade on him isn’t turning up at Spurs imo nor do we have the ambition to be that club that went and did that.

The passing around risky game is clearly on the manager imo so I don’t hold Vicario too accountable for it. I’m often very critical of his lack of commanding the area and will remain so coz I don’t see that changing much.

Big loss at an important part of our season.

Yeah for around a season, then Gomes just went full kamikaze lol.

Definitely the weirdest keeper I’ve seen at Spurs. Could pull off world class saves then drop the easiest of catches… or knockout Corluka <laugh>
