Quote; "I've been trying to get the hate crimes laws reformed for a very long time. We don't have anything in Michigan that's specifically called a hate crimes law. We do have something called an ethnic intimidation law," Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel said. It's a high misdemeanor offense, a low-class felony that carries a maximum sentence of two years in prison. At the federal level, it's 10 years.
The article also mentioned domestic abuse, so I looked into that as well...

Quote: Lansky is accused of assaulting his wife "multiple times lately" because of his mental illness, Coyle said. He allegedly stabbed his wife and her sister on Oct. 3 when they would not allow him into the home, Coyle said. Lansky was charged with two counts of assault and domestic violence and the case is pending. Also, Coyle is accused of strangling his wife on April 12, although charges had not been brought against him in that matter as of Tuesday, Coyle said.
He remains in prison as a threat to the community. Looking at his age 73, I would like to think he will not see the light of day again.
