My first thought, having had mental health problems myself, sometimes a cell really is your safest place. Especially a police cell, as they are far more modern than most of our prisons....but I'll leave it to people to convince me otherwise. I can actually think of one particular case (nowt to do with me), where if the guy had been sectioned (or kept in a cell) he wouldn't have gone on to kill.
I'm presuming they will use secure units instead. i.e. psych wards.
But if the provision is anything like it was when I was working in that field, it was woeful.
