"The Newcastle United legend" Sorry but Shay Given ain't a legend, he was with us for a long time including some very bad periods, but jumped ship to a Man City team with the money to win stuff and immediately got usurped by Joe Hart. Then he was offloaded to Villa, and Papiss Cisse scored an awesome debut goal last him and he quickly lost his place. Given was a very good shot stopper, but he showcased this a lot by played in front of a crappy defence, he quickly got found out at City.
Interesting looks like Cole Palmer is the only white guy in the Chelsea team, is this something of a new record?
Absolutely. If Shay Given, who played for Newcastle over 10 years and made over 350 apps for us isn't a legend, who the **** IS a Newcastle legend? Mad disrespect
Shola Ameobi played nearly 400 games for us, but Andy Cole is far more of a legend for us, and he played 81 games. Games aren't the be all and end all, Given was good, but legend? I don't see it.
And if you think Andy Cole is classed as a bigger legend up here than shola you are massively mistaken mate.
Oh I do love Shola, the point was to illustrate that Cole's scoring record was ridiculous when he was with us.
It was, but when you then turn into a huffy twat, fall out with the manager, refuse to play in matches, refuse to turn up to training and have your arse booted out the club for being a knobhead you don't get legendary status.
Given was an excellent keeper for us and played well for hundreds of games. What are you on about, way off the mark with this one.
Which is where the term "legend" gets a bit thorny. Cos that's pretty much what Given did. Shola had the games, but then so did Kevin Scott and Collocini...and Colo started out badly and was ****ing awful towards the end.
I think Pope is rapidly becoming a huge liability. His decision making is appalling. Punches rather than catches, comes out for suicide balls and I've seen 7 year old keepers with better footwork.
Popes a shot stopper but that's just about all he can manage. I've seen Tim Krul put out similar performances
