See, this is why I posted on the off topic thread when the verdict came in. It shouldn't be political in any way. It was a police officer doing his job, which sadly resulted in a young man losing his life. But that young man got himself mixed up, for whatever reason, in criminal activity and didn't surrender when surrounded by armed officers, resulting in tragic consequences.
I agree with the sentiment but unfortunately everything the police do is turned into a political football. I believe it’s an impact from two main sources to be honest. 1) America. Their media weaponises the police and justice system; the left saw it was effective so now do the same here. Trying to paint police as the bad guys. Now the right are pushing back against this narrative so you have a real melting pot. 2) The genuinely awful management of the police and other public services by the Tories which has led to the country genuinely becoming more unsafe for people. Mix those two things and you have a recipe for absolute carnage every time the police do anything. Ultimately the police need backing imo. Country is far, far too soft now
Thumwood has made a number of some pretty outrageous comments here on various occasions. He has the persona of a harmless eccentric that seems to excuse him from the level of criticism that others experience for less controversial views. Probably overlooked because he is left wing.
Agreed mate, but unfortunately as Os pointed out, it is politics at the moment. I said at the time I didn't want to go into Ians total lies sub- judice. Just thought I'd revisit that statement on the board he made it on now that he can see for himself. I'm sure he'll correct his statement shortly.
https://news.sky.com/story/grandfat...tside-rotherham-hotel-dies-in-prison-13238291 2 years 8 months seems harsh for what he screamed. I'm not saying I agree with the content of what was said, just sentence seems lengthy and unreasonable.
If he had been walking past and happened to scream that, then kept going, I get you. But he was part of an angry mob that were going to burn down a hotel holding immigrants. And his specific scream - that the police should stop protecting this group of people from being murdered- doesn’t seem like something we need in our society.
Just out of curiosity, would you feel same way about the sentence if one of your children had been staying in the hotel this man so vehemently didn’t want protected from murderous arsonists?
Both he and the climate protesters were given harsh sentences as an example to others. I'm not a great fan of this kind of arbitrary justice, the punishment should fit the crime but that's not happening in some recent high profile cases. In different circumstances there is no way those people would have received that length of punishment. Being sent to prison should be the deterrent in itself but they have been given extra as a message to the rest. It's almost as if there has been some sort of political involvement.
As if my children would have been staying in such a lower class hovel. And there were no murderers. To my knowledge, I don't believe anyone was murdered. You remind me of Ned Flanders
Just out of curiosity, what do you to think about the hundreds of girls that were raped in that town. What do you think about that man, who may know someone that was directly raped by a grooming gang, then watch the police and justice system cover it up for decades? Do you think you would be shouting at police? A sane government would have listened to those people’s concerns about safety; then the riots wouldn’t have happened
So you are apparently fine with asylum seekers who have just arrived in the country being regarded as proxies for grooming gangs simply because they have brown faces?
When you stand outside someone’s home - demanding the police leave so you can comit violence - and attempt to burn that home down with people inside, you are a different beast to a protestor.
