strangely, i read fire and ice after the series ended and was surprised in the difference, mind i think i have watched GoT at least five times, bugger all else i fancy watching.
I listened to the audiobook House of the Dragon is based on and it was ok but it felt like a bit of a history lesson. The first series of the show wasn't bad but we watched the first episode of series two and I think we've ditched it, it's just not very compelling. Keep a look out for the Hedge Knight series by the same author, the stories are cracking and casting looks spot on. Sometime next year probably.
Finished The Bear S3 tonight, not my favourite but it wasn't weak or bad quality just not to my taste particularly. Bold move to make a full series into a mood piece with virtually zero plot and it was interesting to dive deeper into Carmy's mind.
That last series started getting really heavy on emotion and feelings without too much going on. I do like it but it needs to get out of its own arse if it wants to avoid being repetitive.
Yeah you'd think they could have had a greater focus on that stuff alongside the story progressing instead of putting it on ice entirely. It worked in a way because I'm invested in the characters and there were a few standout episodes, Tina and Carmy's sister (can never remember her name), but hopefully they get back on track for S4.
That Tina episode was very good. Made we want to see more of the beef before Carmy. I think the whole show has been quite low on story and very high on character, mood, emotions etc.. Yeah they probably slowed it down this series but I think that's quite realistic for the show. It's not a crime, cop or spy show etc... where they could get away with saying oh **** another rival, killer or terror threat in the scene. This is about a chef trying to gey a Michelin star at his brother place that previously sold sandwiches. We have had him turn up and take over after his brother death series 1 and then series 2 was they are getting the new place designed staff trained etc... and series 3 it's up and running and problems that come with it! Imo and obviously you can and may see it different but it's very realistic real peoples lives don't have a lot going on in them. They are invested in the characters not much of a story line. It's there but not there as its slow cause not a lot can happen given the theme. It's why I've always said I wouldn't try to explain to someone quite what it's about story wise cause it would sound boring and hardly be anything to say. I watch it and really enjoy it because of the characters and I think visually etc... it's done really well.
All very true mate, we like it for the characters not for the eventful story, I just think they overdid it a tad in S3. Don't think there was as much humour to break it up either, there was the episode with John Cena which had a crack at it but I didn't find any of that funny.
I really enjoyed game of thrones, other than the last few episodes which made no sense. The books however are absolutely brilliant, way better than the show.
Just watched Operation Mincemeat. A true story from the 2nd world war. Unbelievable deception from all parties involved. Good patter though. Thorioughly enjoyed it
fisrt few episodes I’m scratching my head, thinking where is this going…a tad abstract then it gets really good about to start slow horses series 4 , provided Apple TV stops playing up
I've been watching Hornblower tv series which was on itv when I was a kid! About the third time I've watched them all.
Watched the first Shrinking tonight, very good. Best opening episode of anything I've seen in some time and the soundtrack could have been lifted from my Spotify so I'm all in.
Apologies if this has been covered before on here. I did search but couldn’t find it on here. Anyway 'From' has been recommended to Mrs K and me. Started watching it a couple of days ago. Currently about to start S1 E4. Jeeez it’s scary in places, isn’t it!
