I'm not defending the SMT,but there is a question if not them- who? They managed to persuade/con the owners into putting their hard-earned into the club at a time when TS was desperate to offload and there wasn't a queue of potential investors lined up desperate to acquire ownership of our club. We don't know what sort of relationship the SMT have with the owners. If they sacked the SMT would they feel able to find a new improved CEO while living abroad? I don't know what role Andy Scott has at the club any more, and presumably he wouldn't be missed, but CM is also a shareholder, so he's going to be hard to dislodge. Or the owners could decide it's not the fault of the SMT, football is a mug's game, why throw good money after bad? And if that happens that queue of buyers isn't going to magically appear. That's how I see it.
There's nothing fans can do. But we can let Charlie and SE7 know that we had their measure right from day 1. We're powerless to stop them running the Club into the ground, but they should be made clearly aware that they aren't fooling anyone. Not even a handful of ex-useful idiots.
I don’t think @TC (Lovely Geezer) is far wrong in that they are a bit more than an SMT. What I would say is that for three clowns “steeped in football” , they are getting a lot wrong at CAFC. It’s going to be interesting to see how long it takes before the investors to turn the taps off. IMO Nathan Jones has to take us up this season, for all sorts of reasons.
I'd say the main thing they are getting wrong is recruitment, and that's a long-standing problem at this club. I don't know why that should be the case but before the Luton influx we had the Swindon lot, and Roland's Eurobunch of misfits. Briefly he let Bowyer take control before ESI came in but that was short-lived and you have to go back to SCP before that.
The yanks won’t be selling up imo. They won’t have to as they are lenders again imo. Charlie boy paid 12m quid for a club that is only worth a pound to the nearest mug prepared to pay it. That’s why we haven’t heard a single word from them and it’s also why they don’t spend on players. They loaned money and once it runs out then what? It’s down to the smt to manage the remaining money so they can’t just waste it on players giving there’s a club to run too. We are offshore in the Cayman Islands as well with everything shrouded in secrecy. Make of that what you want but imo that’s a useful tool for big business It amuses me to see posts about the owners needing to do this and that, spend money on this and that, yet we haven’t heard a single word from them. That’s because they aren’t involved beyond lending imo. The bank doesn’t get involved in your house after lending money. Nobody would suggest they step in to make decisions about a new kitchen or whatever should the home owner make mistakes. So down the line l would say we’re going to be in big trouble when the money runs out and we have to find someone to pay back the money borrowed. Promotion is a definite requirement as a starting point. As soon as we get promoted l would expect Charlie to sell up.
So when the money runs out the Club likely goes to the wall. There won't be any more White Knights. Roland gets his land to build luxury flats on - after sweetening up Greenwich Council, who are being pressured by Starmer to build more houses. And AFC Charlton will be playing up the park on Sundays and getting changed in the back of a van. So ends the Ballad of the boys from East Street.
We don’t know what will happen. We don’t even know what the exit strategy will be. All we know is what is written down, the possibility that someone owns this percentage and someone owns that. As with a mortgage loan, the bank owns the property until the loan is paid off but they have no control over the decisions related to the property. That’s what I’m seeing now regarding ownership of the club. I would just like to hear from the so called owners regarding their plans and their vision for the future of the club. Still waiting.
It was always suspicious that three so called billionaires needed a consortium of 7 to spread the risk & investment. It is plain to almost everyone now that they haven’t spent - they certainly haven’t invested anything like enough where it counts in the team - to suggest that they stand any chance of being successful. Relaying the pitch, the chicken hut in the car park, Hawtrey’s favourite actor “Dr Will” …all window dressing from Methven, designed to distract.
@ElfsborgAddick Can you prioritise this question to Methven tomorrow night please. “What is your biggest achievement to date as CEO at Charlton. The fried chicken hut in the car park, or replacing Alfie May with Ahadme?”
Yes, people in his field will bull**** their way through a Q&A like tomorrow, this is not disprespect to Bromley Addicks as they do a bloody good job. What MUST happen is that Methven will know what questions to expect and he'll come out with a load of s***, however, his answer should be allowed a follow up question and that could f*** him. I'll see for myself tomorrow.
He will. I can predict what he will say. Long season. Give it time. Board right behind Nathan. We will be spending in January Alfie May / George Dobson / CBT all insisted on leaving. Andy Scott assures me their replacements are better. Global likes Thousand Island Dressing on his prawn sandwiches.
I'm in the Wetherspoons down the road pre meeting to fuel myself up. @Hawtrey’s Beverages can testify to my enthusiasm after a drink.
