Literally everything. The odds for Villa and us finishing in the top 4 this season are the same.

Look like a better side? They only finished 4th last season cos they had a good first half of the season, they were horrendous at the end of the season. And they don't look all that this season, only won yesterday with 2 goals right at the end, and in the game before that they were 0-2 down at home to Everton.

Their fixtures are easier right now, but around November things get very tough for them especially with the CL games.

The bookies can't change the league standings last season.

What you're doing is finding anything you possibly can to try and ignore the actual league positions.

Other than that are you watching the two sides play? Villa are actually playing way better football right now too.

I disagree, Villa haven't looked that good, they've played some poor teams in West Ham, Everton and Wolves and only narrowly beaten them, Arsenal easily dealt with Villa.

Haven’t we played some poor teams but got easily dealt with by Fulham?

We didn't easily get dealt with at all, the match could have got either way at the end, but they got the goal.

And that's before that massive miss by Schar that would have made it 2-2.

    So no.

The league position plaster is going to fall off I think over the next 5 or 6 games.

If it does people will start saying it's not worth looking at the table until May or something along those lines.

Let's just hope Newcastle get a few wins.

If if if, though. If they hadn’t hit the bar it would’ve been 3-0 and goodness knows where that might’ve ended up

Im confused as to why it’s so difficult to agree that Newcastle are currently crap? We just are, that’s the end of it. We need to debate the reasons why not whether we are or not!

Cos we're really not, teams like Everton, West Ham and Palace are currently crap.

We're not playing as well as we did at some points over the last 2 years, but we've still made a good start and are in a good place now.

If we had won yesterday we would have literally have been top of the Prem right now. That ain't crap.

Well we will have to agree to disagree, as what I’ve seen so far this season is lethargic, disjointed, one dimensional and disinterest from the players. There’s no discernible style of play, we’ve let average/poor players stick around for far too long and seem quite easy to play against. We are currently missing one first team starter, so I can’t work out what the excuses are.

Obviously I think Howe is now the issue. The structure around him has changed, he’s got the arse about it. Most elite teams have set piece coaching specialists, performance people, and so on but it took kicking Staveley out for (some of) those things to happen. All of it feels like it’s happening against howes wishes so if he doesn’t want to coach in this structure he has to change or be changed.

I'm not going dissect all your diatribes, but you obviously always have a super pessimistic viewpoint.

You argued forever Wood was crap, and you won't give up on Barnes however many goals he scores. This "one starter" is our best defender, who clearly makes a difference. If there hadn't been 2 dreadful mistakes yesterday by Pope and Bruno, we could have easily won given our second half performance and been top of the league, would Howe still need to go then?

A more optimistic appraisal is that we have points on the board and are in a good position dispute not being at our best, and plenty of improvement can happen performance wise.

The reality is not everyone can just acknowledge the issues and will instead keep pointing at the table to save face or to pull wool over their own eyes, but they will soon burn up in their own argument.

Funnily enough when the league position drops over the next few weeks they'll simply start saying the league table isn't worth looking at yet or point at easier upcoming games... they'll continue with the ifs, buts and maybes.

It's very simple... no matter what occurs some people will do anything possible to avoid just admitting the fact Newcastle are crap right now. We all know it though we can all see it and there's no harm in saying it...

Not always pessimistic, oftentimes yes. Wood is crap. Barnes is getting better and we all win if he proves doubters wrong so good luck to him, hes done well so far. To be absolutely clear my main issue wasn’t with Barnes - it was with Newcastle buying a sub for Gordon when we still had Murphy, Almiron, Burn, Krafth, Longstaff playing regularly.

Now feels like the right time to remind you I said Pope was crap and needed upgrading.

I also don’t feel Howe is displaying the characteristics needed to improve us. We’re getting slightly worse week on week. Something feels broken at the club. That’s all.
