Well, it is more around his purest philosophy that clearly is going to get him sacked and likely us relegated, so yes I would call it his vanity project.

How many goals we conceded this year as a result of his purest ****ing around at the back, vanity project? None?

Thought you’d have a better response than that. Perhaps you misunderstood?

I mean, in simple terms RM decides how to play. At most time, it is slow, turgid, sideways and backwards, and the strangest thing for me, is we take all these risks in our own half, yet get near the opposition goal, no risks taken.

For me that is vanity. Fair enough if you don’t see it that way. No need to ridicule :emoticon-0148-yes:
There are certain statements about Russ that I find ridiculous, whether my objections to these amount to ridicule, I don’t know?

1. The manager decides how the team plays and stands or falls on that

2. Russ doesn’t tell them to play “slow, turgid, sideways and backwards football” or to “take all these risks in our own half” and none in the oppositions
He wants them to make good decisions on when and where to take risks and that isn’t easy, he acknowledges that
Doing it well is demonstrated by Ramsey and Lallana and sometimes by others
We saw it improve enormously in the Champ and he wants to do the same in the Prem which is much more difficult
We may get relegated and he may pay for that, but this is how he plays
Personally I prefer a manager with a vision other than just to survive

EDIT: I should add that I get why people are frustrated about this. Obvs I do myself too, but I have to have some faith in Russ, he’s not an idiot and he’s a top bloke and good manager, however it works out

Wouldn’t be surprised by any result tbh. Win, lose or draw. Though I predicted we’d lose 0-1 in the prediction league. At least one of Clarke or Delap are probably going to score against us. Almost time to head in. COYR

couldn’t disagree more with your second point. They play to the managers instructions. You literally made this point in a previous post.
Anyhow, don’t want to argue or drag it out. Enjoy the game.
I’m feeling weirdly optimistic.

The old saying that football is a simple game made complicated by coaches is highlighted by this game - McKenna plays it simple, Russ not so. Never mind, I`m going for a 3-1 Saints win.

Controversy 1. I think Martin will start Aribo after his good performance in the week.
Controversy 2. I would consider playing Taylor at left back. Balance and a set piece threat.

Wouldn’t have minded KWP or Sugawara at RB. KWP is a superior player imo, but Sugawara has been playing well and wants to be here whereas KWP won’t be our player next season, so can understand the decision.

Though I do have a horrible VAR feeling in the pit of my stomach :emoticon-0107-sweat
