Personally I thought that was significantly better than watching Rosieball - still early, players bedding in - we have some good players and it will come together before long - dodged a bullet with Moore, useless - plus their player should have had a red

Why do people keep saying this as if there's any truth to it other than to insist in their own heads that the right call in ditching Rosenior was made??

Walter has the players passing around at the back and as the commentator said, as soon as we tried to do anything meaningful we just gave the ball away. Our chances came in spite of our style not because of it. At least under Rosenior we actually scored some bloody goals.

Rosie ****ed up the last 13 games - 3 wins and we missed out on the play offs- totally unforgiveable - plus the ****ing about at the back was ****e

What on Earth do you think we just watched?? McLoughlin, Giles, Coyle, Pandur and Jones must have completed about 400 of our 600 passes tonight.

EDIT: <laugh> I said that as a pisstake but legitimately Pandur (71), Coyle (78), Jones (102), McLoughlin (93), Giles (35), Drameh (38) completed over 400 of our 600 passes tonight.

I'd rather be in a position to **** up and miss the play offs than where we're going to find ourselves this season..

And Walter saying he's happy with how we played because that's how he wants us to play. Brilliant.
I don’t think it’s really too bad to say it to be honest. You take away 2 corner counter attacks it’s a good point. I am 100% not convinced by the style but we absolutely created the better chances in open play. Bedia should’ve had a couple. Mehlem should’ve had 1. If we played anyone worse we’d have got something. Walter’s style won’t get us anything against better sides this season but i do hope we do get the better of worse sides eventually,

That post match interview was about as damaging as a Acun Q&A where he stitched up half the goalkeeping department, the former gaffer who had some sense of control and the majority of the fanbase.

Yeah, I understand ffp required a reset, but the decision to make it a coaching reset as well, with the inevitability that our existing players ultimately become new players also - because of some nuts philosophy that didn't quite work for 2 massive teams in Bd2...

"Football is the same everywhere - I am different"

Well first Inteview red flag there - it's is different in different places and different levels - and if you don't know that you'll have your pants pulled down.

And that's what ****ing happening.

You can put the existing players from last year's squad with some u21s from last year under last years coaching staff, and we wouldn't look so disorganised or completely devoid of purpose.

So now blueco get the opportunity to develop talent, with our former coach working in an elite European league, when we sack him to go with a far more arrogant lunatic with literally no deference or understanding of the competition he's actually in.

If this continues then he's clearly a liability.

But I said I'd give him 10 games, so at least 6 points in the next 4 please.

Otherwise we're right in the **** so f*CK off.

It's literally kids football. Joke.

Oh **** off.

That was ****. We've not even looked like winning any of them so far.

Get your head out of your arse.

Obviously you want the 3v3. We had several of those tonight and we routinely had loads of them last season too. The amount of times Delap would turn and stride away giving us a break similar to the Mehlem one today. But then as now, we were crap at converting it into anything. The idea that we never got into good positions because of the playing out from the back was always total bollocks.

And yep, the obsession with tempo and speed that has exploded into football discourse over the last year or two is a trend I could do without. It was pretty much never mentioned at all only a few years ago.

Sad. Seems you really believe that.

Bedia done well but ran his bollocks off for ****ing nothing.

If Delap was in that side he'd spend all his time filling gaps not having a chance to break forward.

No wonder we struggled to land players this summer, this bloke is a compete chancer.

Shota MK2.

Now prove me wrong.

As of tonight, our home form in The Championship since the start of 2019/20 is W31 D24 L40. I check this periodically because it went off a cliff at the start of that season and has never really recovered, and I don't think people realise how long it's been a problem.

Oh jesus, so we tanked at home 5 managers ago and an entirely different squad ago so that's the problem now?

Really?

Just have a look at what you said. It's just deflection and excusism at its most craven.

Take a look at yourself man.

The style is horrendous. We pass it around at the back then turn it over. Commentator called it out too, everyone can see it. Our chances are in spite of our play or a moment of magic, not as a result of our play. And Walter saying he's happy with it is ridiculous.

It's juvenile facile play. We throw everyone forward then get shocked when a single through ball down the centre leads to chances. Sheff u could have had another 2-3 goals they fluffed from really easy chances. It's not sustainable.

Stoke next and if we can't even score against them it's a massive worry.

A lot of mixed opinions, for me after a pretty bland first half, I thought the 2nd half was better. TW is clearly having to try different midfield combinations whilst playing, he tried Burns there last night, which didn't work.

Zambrano against Leeds I thought started to look more settled, so unless they know something about his pending ban, or it was just changing it to see how Burns did, we will have to wait and see.

On the centre backs, we have gone from a structured defensive shape which they were comfortable with, to now a much more individualistic way of defending. At times, they are so far apart, we are easily picked off on the counter. However, neither CB seems capable of making the forward type passes into midfield TW is looking for, hence why I think Hughes when he is back looks as if he will be a better fit for McLaughlin's position.

I have to say Giles doesn't look fully at it, just his body language isn't right, I think that is why TW took him off. We did look better second half and Drameh did okay.

For their 2nd goal, Millar went the wrong side of his man, he should have gone on the inside, it was easy for him to be bullied off the ball.

Omur I thought looked much better centrally, Slater brought more energy when he came on,

Overall, the problem is that we have a team that has been thrown together, and needs time to gel, it's not surprising it looks a bit chaotic at times. Whether TW will be given the time, I guess it remains to be seen, hopefully when all the players available are up to speed, we will start to see better results.

I don't think there are a lot of mixed opinions at all.

Offensively we're impotent and have been in every game so far. Defensively we're ****ing clueless and a simple ball through the middle gets them in behind time, and time, and time again it's ****ing predictable.

Not just this game we've not looked like winning a single one of them.

I really want him to do well just to piss that idiot from the HDM off, who seems to be gleefully sticking the boot in tonight. ****
Baz is simply calling it like it is. I really don’t get this hatred of him or the HDM. Local journalism has been decimated in recent years, and for my money we’re very fortunate to have Barry Cooper. He works like a dog and for the most part calls it right. Who would you prefer, John Fieldhouse?

Absolutely this, 100%. Belloumi must have had the ball twice in that first half. The left is our only consistent outlet, still. Not sure why Giles is getting slated as he's the only one capable of getting the ball forward. Macca is actually trying to do the job required but the quality part is lacking; that pass that sets us off after he's moved. Jones is still playing last season's system. Coyle does well when he gets forward, but with the ball, deep, he's not setting anything off for us either. He's also still playing last season's system.

What we're seeing right now in defence is the reality of what our defence is. We're still operating with a largely League 1 back line. Rosenior managed to overprotect it but it cost us heavily in attack and creating chances. We took the sting out of everything all the time and it relied entirely on waiting for something special from one of a few special players who have since gone to a league above for a lot of money. Fast forward to now, where they're all expected to play football and move like midfielders... Except they're struggling with it, because they're 'limited defenders'. They're going from a system that was about simple passes and ball retention and about not conceding goals. It played to their strengths. Now they're being asked to contribute more but it's falling down because they're struggling to do so.

Zambrano helped ease this pressure really well a couple of weeks ago. Burns tonight, did nothing of the sort unfortunately.

Tonight we were the architects of our own downfall again. I agree the corners need sorting as they've been ****e, consistently.

As for judging the system, right now we're not seeing it. These rotations and movements aren't really happening at all, but this is down to getting used to the new philosophy and the number of new players we've brought in as well, 4 of which still haven't featured yet, 2 of which got their first hour tonight and others of which have had only 2 to 4 games for us at this point. The amount of changes we've made all at once are a recipe for disaster, but all it needs is time and patience to start to see it working.

This isn't Walterball... We're seeing brief glimpses of it, but we look absolutely nothing like his previous teams at the moment. Two problems, we don't move often enough, we play too safe. When someone does move progressively, the pass doesn't often come, so we just end up out of shape and with more pressure on the ball carrier, who then plays the sideways or backwards pass because that's what they're used to. Same problems as last season so far, and it starts at the back. The other issue is the lack of chemistry when we do get the ball forward quickly and successfully, but with the sheer number of new entries into the club, they should come naturally with more time. Personally I don't see any need to piss pants quite yet. It's frustrating to watch because we shoot ourselves in the foot every game, but it should start to click.

That's the best reply in the thread for me. Absolutely spot on about the defence.

Watching City should come with a health warning, driving me to drink! To think I stayed up late past midnight in Cyprus to watch this ****. Tim’s had a couple of weeks to hone in, concentrate on reinforcing his style of play, tactics, and delivers this. Then, says he is proud of the performance! 2 goals conceded/gifted from our own corners :headbang: Sheffield weren’t even that good, not made to break sweat for the 3 points, I fear it’ll get messy when up against better teams. I could see the ball being moved faster up field, more fluidity, but at expense of kamikaze defending. Struggling to see any positives, only Coyle, Omur had any glory, oh and we missed a bullet with Moore, indecisive & useless.

Needless to say, Tim’s got his work cut out to improve things, and quickly. UTT, onwards & upwards, hopefully.

Reality check:

We just played a team with automatic promotion expectations.

I said a few weeks ago, the real test are the next 3 games - Stoke, Cardiff, QPR. We were always likely to not win this game.

There were improvements in the second half. I believe this is down to introducing quality players like Drameh and Millar. Drameh should always start for me.

I was scratching my head seeing the same back 5, and then not at all surprised seeing lots of the same problems. However, they were a little better at playing out…but not a lot. And not good enough.

The game was frustrating on the whole, but there were glimpses of good attacking play. Against a lower quality side, I expect to see more chances. I know Sheff Utd didn’t play particularly well, but again let’s not forget some of their individual quality.

I feel for Belloumi and that mistake. But fair play to him for almost redeeming it with that good effort that their keeper had to tip over.

I think Tim Walter will have learned a lot after this one. He needs to calm himself down before doing interviews though.

I also think others need to calm themselves down a bit too and stop calling for his head. 5 league games. At least give him 10. :emoticon-0100-smile

I think that’s the biggest mistake he made last night. I get that he’s trying to protect players but when we’ve been outfought in a Yorkshire derby, he should really be more honest with how things went. That response will only anger the fans.
