Worst comment I read on that was, 'as long as they just stick to killing one another, then let them get on with it' not sure if they meant them as in young hoodlum types or something more racist.

They’re busy filming you walking from a football stadium to a train station in a police escort you’re obligated to be in due to attending that football match.

Sad story though. Sad that we become so numb to it.

I do question why Labour chose to target pensioners first, whether they can afford it or not and not go for a wealth tax - I thought this was what Labour were all about in the run up to the election, hitting the millionaires and billiaonaires.

Speaking at the TUC conference in Brighton on Sunday, Sharon Graham said her union, Unite, is instead proposing a 1% wealth tax on the country's richest to fill the £22bn "black hole" in public finances.

    https://news.sky.com/story/governme...winter-fuel-payments-says-unite-boss-13211672

In response, Unite has launched a national campaign to defend the Winter Fuel Payment. If enough of us take action, we can change the government’s plans and help all our pensioners keep warm this winter.

I'm expecting Keir to win the vote, I can't see a majority of MP's voting against him this early in his leadership.

I've got quite a few thoughts on it, even though it don't affect me, but I'll save boring everyone lol

I want to say credit to Wes Streeting for speaking honestly about it, he's quite a mouth piece, so was good to see him not try and defend it wholeheartedly.

Good shout - I ****ing hate it when the slimey ****ers (all parties) start their answer to a direct question with "I think what's important is ..." or rather "I will now avoid answering that question and instead say something I have already rehearsed which may have nothing to do with your question ..."

Still a better use of funds than giving millionaire pensioners a few hundred quid to subsidise their winter holiday in Spain which for some reason has to be debated incessantly while nobody gave a **** when groups who are genuinely skint were made worse off. Give me a winter fuel allowance to pay for 60 bet builders or 100 coffees ffs.

Its just pensioners who have savings and high yield private pensions that are losing the allowance right?
Not those on pension credit who live on £600 a month?

They reckon there are 880,000 pensioners entitled to pension credit who are not claiming it, that I believe is where the problem lays.

I know it's easy to say well they should claim it, but how many of them live alone and wouldn't have the first clue about claiming benefits, and are apprehensive in doing so for various reasons.

I have no way of knowing how accurate that figure is re numbers, but I can probably understand why some elderly pensioners might not want to go to the hassle of claiming pension credit....so yes, well then they lose out if that's the mentality we want to have.

Not sure what the answer is to be honest.

Edit: also do those numbers not claiming pension credit mean we are just robbing peter to pay paul if they do claim it....and it goes on.

since the old style basic RP is £170 it's very unlikely to find any living on £600 per month .
The average pensioner these days tend to have a very comfortable life financially
