Fair enough, but just to point out, since Mitchell joined we've signed Ruddy, Vlach and Osula. 2 goalkeepers - which you've been THE most critical about - and a young striker who 'didn't score for Sheffield" (I actually like the look of his play tbh). And then you've generally been the most vocal (daily) about the lack of transfer activity. Now it's suddenly all because Mitchell is the new Messiah and a strategic genius?
Brighton were already a better run club than Newcastle when the Saudis bought the club. There's a huge disconnect with reality within the fanbase.. You can point here there and everywhere and you'll find an example of a club doing worse better and about the same. There will be fans somewhere saying look Newcastle can finish 4th and 7th why are we so ****. Things are improving all the time... plain and simple.
The level of intensity has dropped, but the dilemma is we're not that good in possession! Subs have improved, for sure. I said earlier, we have a solid enough group of about 16-17 players (about what Leicester used to win the PL) to challenge, if we get the tactics, style, subs and so on right. We need some tweaks - can see why they went for Guehi because him and Schar (or Botman) can switch it fast and play better from the back. RW is a flaw because there's a lack of intelligence - there's no way Murphy or Almiron would have made the run Gordon did for the goal v B'mth. The answer until at least Jan is getting Barnes and Gordon on the field, and using them to switch styles through a game. Tonali's return is huge because he gives what only Bruno can. Joelinton will work his balls off. Hall coming off the bench is adding a real dimension, where Kelly, Targett or Burn can just keep it tight. Livramento or Trippier, good options there. Schar's return will be welcome. The Tw@tter meltdown is ludicrous, mind. I was so angry because we need two players. But take a step back, bring Barnes in, get Botman back and....well, we still need two, but they need to be really good. And when people are paying £45m for Kilman and almost paying £70m for Guehi, the world's gone mad.
Ha, best thing I've read today: "Miggy was of interest to Everton but failed his medical because he's missing a right foot".
Most of the fans haven't got clue! They'll **** down someones throat one day and then pretend it didnt happen the next...that's how they operate.(myself included) They're after someone to take a big old dump in Tonight and it's Mitchell, but They'll end up sucking on his balls somewhere down the line.
It does feel a bit deflating right now but if we beat Spurs it will be back to happy days (yes i am that fickle). Just as long as this is a one off and we do spend in January and/or next summer.
All PL deadline day permanent deals: Manuel Ugarte - Paris Saint-Germain to Manchester United, £50.5m Orel Mangala - Lyon to Everton, loan Aaron Ramsdale - Arsenal to Southampton, £18m-plus Sam Johnstone - Crystal Palace to Wolves, £10m Sekou Kone - Guidars FC to Manchester United, undisclosed Maxence Lacroix - Wolfsburg to Crystal Palace, £21m with add-ons Erm. Wow, we really missed a trick with.....erm.....well, we should've at least gone for a 6th goalkeeper.
I have a feeling there's a longer game at play. Howe is on trial as of this season, with the team he wanted (minus Marc Guehi and Michael Olise). A LOT of sub-standard players have expiring contracts. A LOT of investment has gone into youth scouting. We are waiting on the third party ruling and a change in rules (anchoring). This season is about understanding whether we back Howe into the promised land, or change.
Dick head 'Palace will still get Guehi figure or perhaps more down the line'published at 21:51 British Summer Time 21:51 BST please log in to view this image Michael Brown Former Tottenham and Man City midfielder on BBC Radio 5 Live The money Crystal Palace would have got for Marc Guehi is safe with him. They have managed to keep him and they will still get figure another time down the line. Without being disrespectful to Newcastle I think bigger clubs will come in for him and perhaps even offer more.
