Average crime rate in London pa is 100+ per 1,000 people
For an event of 1m people this would be 100,000 pa
Thats about 550 over a two day period
There were 295 arrests at the Carnival

And given the unspecified number that were just drug offences and given the average age/nature of attendees at a music event, that's probably quite a few of them

I understand why I had to explain this stuff to my parents in the 70s, having to do it now is crazy

Have I Got News For You.
Former Tory Home Secretary, Suella Braverman, hosts a radio phone-in on LBC and criticises Labour for not building enough prisons. Next she'll have a go at Arne Slot for Liverpool not winning enough trophies.

Good to see Keir Stalin is honouring the time old UK tradition of lying about almost everything in his campaign ‘promises’.

This budget is going to be grim.

    Classic naive boomer take

“The 70s were safe, so everything is still safe”

No. Things are getting much worse:

You still have no evidence of two tier policing. When I asked about it you gave (totally incorrect) claims of two-tier media coverage.

Which specific promises do you think will be broken?

Bear in mind that Rachel Reeves was always careful not to rule out certain tax rises (such as capital gains tax, inheritance tax etc)

Intellectually dishonest people are pretending they said “no tax rises”. When they very clearly set out which ones wouldn’t rise and were very very evasive about all the others

I think people have also made up that they outright came out and said “we will instantly be able to make things better”. Which I don’t recall happening but even if they did that one is more forgivable as it is an election.

And since we don’t live in a parallel universe we can’t know what a Tory budget would have looked like if they had one. But the same black hole would have existed. At least. If not bigger. So this bad faith stuff is also ignoring this aspect. Or worse pretending a Tory budget would have been lovely a rosey and full of gifts for the electorate. Which they never are apart from occasionally just before an election. But certainly not when one is years in the distance

it’s certainly not great that we aren’t immediately going to have uplifting news. Not going to pretend otherwise

The Tory shouts of "Where's your magic money tree?" are sadly still ringing in Labour ears. I think we need to start spending but the government are being super cautious - and still getting flack for it.

Remember - the Tories are allowed to use a magic money tree and the press just let them. Labour have no such opportunity

Starmer and Reeves, in fact the incoming government as a whole have pretty much done as expected. Reeves in particular refused to be drawn into making promises pre election and stressed that only properly funded policies would be put in place.

Last week the Guardian reported Reeves will raise taxes and cut spending. None of this particularly surprises me.

No big surprise, pretty much as expected from her pre election interviews. Pretty much as needed given the crock of **** left by the incompetent corrupt tory shysters.

Yes. You'd never catch a Labour government doing anything corrupt. They'd certainly never give party donors or their own staff jobs in the civil service.

Just putting round pegs in round holes. There's a lot of incompetent tory appointments that need rooting out and replacing with someone qualified for the job.

They said their manifesto is fully costed. A clear lie.

Today he claimed there is a new 22bil hole in the economy. Also a clear lie.

Here is a letter from March highlighting this shortfall:

    IMG_0079.jpeg

They lied that they wouldn’t raise taxes. They lied that they wouldn’t target pensioners.

Imo he should resign already. Horrendous.

What about your lie about two-tier policing? You still haven't answered the question.

Is the labour councillor that called for people to slit the throats of right wing protestors currently in prison?

    (Answer: obviously not)

Well, in an interview the week prior to the GE, she stated she wouldn’t be introducing unlawful VAT on children’s education until Sept 25 at the earliest. Think it was in Times or Guardian, can’t recall which.

So, I’d suggest that was one promise she instantly broke.
