The problem with that plan is we obviously need to bring in some money and, despite what many fans think of Alcaraz, our manager clearly doesn't rate him.
It is a maximum of 2 from the PL and maximum of 4 registered throughout the season (regardless of where they are from). So we can still loan one more PL and one more international.
A few things are going on here: - a massive lack of creativity in our midfield - rose tinted glasses from being the only player to really show anything in the second half the relegation season - an apparent assumption that because gotzepe are benefitting from this that for some reason this deal is being pushed from on high and not actually beneficial to saints Point 3 if anyone actually thinks this is utter horseshit. Pure and simple. And this shouldn’t need further explanation. Point 2 is understandable. Point 1 - I just don’t think he is the answer and if he is then that would be an awful lot of pressure. And the club clearly agree. And do most other clubs because if he was some kind of Le Tissier type wizard who could unlock our flat midfield and suddenly make us dangerous and competitive the we’d have more offers than a one serious one from Brazil and one chancers one from Lazio
Oh. For some reason I thought it was a max of four throughout the season but no more than 2 at any one time. Allowing for 2 lots of half season loans replaced in January (for example)
I’m stunned to read people elsewhere suggesting such a deal is worrying. It seems complete common sense to me
Bijlow deal sounds very smart and sensible. Let's hope the £15m or whatever that works out for with Charly gets lumped in with another five or ten to buy Gimenez or someone like that. Or just someone who can play a number 9 position. Please, please, please.
If we have to go cheap, how would people feel if we reinforced by getting Wee Man back for the left, and playing BBD through the middle. For me it's nowhere near enough, but it would make more sense than today.
I'm less fussed about how Goztepe might benefit from us selling Alcarez, and far more fussed about what we do with the money. If it results in us bringing in someone who will be a huge help to our season, then great. But if not, then selling him would be a waste. SR's track record isn't great, so it does make me nervous. I can just picture us here in 12 - 24 months time, when the club is desperately trying to offload some flop, shaking our heads at the memory that we flogged Alcarez in order to buy said flop.
Giminez is likely to cost at least £30m. And even if we can stump up that much he will pick any other club who also does - such as the main club he’s been linked with, the one who beat us today
Yeah, I don't think we have any chance of Jimenez, but he was just a name to pick out of a hat. We'll end up buying Datro Fofana from Chelsea or something.
I wouldn’t be surprised to see this. But really it just seems like the system is nonsense and that one of the two needs to go wide and the other stays central - not both going wide at the same time - especially without someone breaking from midfield behind them
I haven’t seen much of him but he doesn’t seem like a hold up player. He seems similar to the other strikers we have just a bit taller. We would be better off getting whichever of Forest’s strikers becomes surplus But it’s a moot point because I don’t see us getting an expensive striker. If that was on the cards then arguably that should have been instead of Archer - so a striker for say 10m extra than what we paid for Archer. I just don’t see us paying big for another even though we desperately need one. Not least because we are clearly traumatised as a club on failed big signings and are terrified of blowing another one
Which as Libby said earlier, is so weird about Archer. He's a decent player in the right system, but if we're selling Charly because he doesn't fit the way we play, I don't understand why we bought Archer. Because he doesn't, as things stand.
Okay, here's a mad suggestion. If PSG are buying Osimhen and/or another striker, and presuming they are keeping Ramos as well. How about a loan pitch for Kolo Muani. He's the kind of striker profile that would be great for us as a 9.
Jonathan David on loan.Until he gets sold to some other PL team, I will keep manifesting and banging the drum. Lol
Well as it stands Archer hasn’t started a game yet. If he starts in a set up that isn’t structured for the way he plays then this is more of a point. But as has been said - it doesn’t really make sense
TBH I'm less concerned about that than I am about him playing 3 CB'S to fit Stephens into the line up. We really didn't need 3 CB'S today.
